tips for buying a new bow?

So I used to hunt a lot when I was younger and really enjoyed archery. I want to start shooting archery again but I sold my old bow (it was a hoyt and I loved it) so now I need to buy a new one but don't know anything about what to look for (my dad bought my last one).

Any suggestions?

Whatever you do, go to an archery shop to buy it. They can help you select the right draw length and bow poundage that you can handle.

You should look into the Hoyt Turbohawk bow. It is a mid range bow that is almost identical to the much higher priced Hoyt Alphamax but will cost you about $300 to $350 less then the Alphamax will cost. They share the same cams, limbs, and shoot at almost the same exact speed. The riser is identical to the Alphamax except it is made of magnesium instead of aluminum.

The advantage of going to a pro shop is that they will rig you up a bow and let you try it out before you buy it.They can also advise you on which arrows are best suited for the bow, and what accessories you may need with it. Good luck.

My advice is to go to a few pro shops. Ones that sell these bows. Mathews, Hoyt, and Bow tech. These three bow companies are the three top of the line bow companies that everyone seems to like. Some would say PSE is in there also. That one is up to you. If you are looking for a cheaper bow Mathews has a line called "Mission" and Bow tech has a line called "Diamond". These are there bow styles from the past years and don't have all the bells and whistles but shoot great and are a less expensive. Mission and Diamond will be sold where the Mathews and Bow tech bows are sold. I would say that Mathews and Hoyt are closer to the same compared to the Bow tech. The Mathews and Hoyt are not as big into speed but rather more into being smooth and quiet. Mathews does have some quick bows but I would stay in there more forgiving bows. Bow tech are screaming fast but you can tell why. They are quite a bit louder and not as easy to pull. PSE. Yeah they are all about speed and some of the rudest bows to pull. Good luck and have fun hunting.

There are quite a few GOOD bows on the market today. Alpine, Hoyt, Martin, Parker, Diamond, Bow-Tech make good bows and the list go on and on. Parker has a combo unit thats shoots as well as any bow, expecially if you just now getting back into archery. I don't know your budget, but as for me, I cannot justify spending $1000.00 for a complete bow package. I have been shooting long enough to appreciate the more expensive goodies that comes with one of those high dollar bow packages, but I believe that all bows come down to physics, not technology. I have friends that can outshoot most archers with a traditional recurve or longbow, that's including me. I have included a great link for your review. Good Luck!
