Air conditioning+baby= always sick :(?

I use to keep my air on 75 but ever since I had my girls I keep it on 77-78. During the day my 20m old is fine. No cough or boogies. But EVERY morning she wakes up soooooo congested (chest) she goes to sleep with socks, pants, and long sleeve pjs and I cover her with her blanket but she does not like it and ALWAYS kicks it off n she tends to sweat a lot just like her dad (even when its cold) now my question is why does she wake up congested every morning and gets sick at night? 77 isn't too low. I'm getting tired of it bc she's always getting sick and well I blame the air bc its at night. The air vent throws the air in every part of the room so I can't move her bed and I cover her but she takes it off. Even after she falls asleep n it I put the air higher its too hot. I don't think 77 is too cold. I don't use covers either and if I do its the thin sheets and just to cover myself so people won't see me in pjs.

Honestly, i keep our ac on 75.. day and night. I, myself wake up with a stuffy nose and congestion.

its because air conditioning takes the moisture out of the air, and it dries out the capilaries in her nose. Has nothing to do with the temperature. :)

try getting a humidifier to put a little bit more moisture in the air.

Could also have something to do with the dust that air conditioning circulates. try some hepa filters.

Other than turning it completely off, or doing those 2 things, theres not much you can do about it, and not much to worry about. :)

It's not about the temperature. Most likely, it's the A/C system. Sounds like your A/C is old and is kicking in a lot, taking too much moisture out of the air. If I put our A/C on 77, we would be freezing. Putting it on 80F, it's often too cold but never too hot. Our A/C is less than 4 years old, though. Our neighbors keep their A/C on 75F and it feels hotter in their house (Same type/size of house).

I would get the A/C serviced. At that time, the tech will measure the temperature of the air coming out of the vent. When we got our A/C system replaced, I was shocked how much colder the air was. It feels like a freezer. The new A/C runs a lot less than our old one.

My son just turned 2 & we keep it on 66 & he's fine in long pants & a shirt with a blanket. When he takes nap during the day he sweats terrible & it just drips down his face so we keep it cool. Have you tried a humidifier in your childs room? Usually a child will get congested & have boogies from a cold (virus). 78 is certainly not going to make your child sick.

I have a 15 month old baby boy and my son at times wakes up like that we bought a vicks humidifier and it has worked wonders. You can buy vicks strips that go into it but hardly use the vick strips unless he has a cold or the flu.

I would try that for a few days see if it works for your baby.

It's less likely to be because she's cold, and more likely to be due to circulating allergens (dust, pollen) into her room at night. It wouldn't hurt to clean the filters into her room to see if that helps, you'd be amazed at how much crap gets stuck in there, especially during the warm, dry summer months. Maybe you could ask your pharmacist for a pediatric over the counter antihistamine and give her a small dose just to see if it helps.

Close the register at night. Or buy one of those plastic covers and direct the air away from her.

in case you have any cans of soda interior the refrigerator you could positioned a pair of chilly ones on their aspects interior the cage so the rats can lie up against the cans and stay cool. confirm to replace out the cans for chilly ones as quickly as the cans come to room temp.

They make something called a sleep sack. It is a wearable blanket for little ones. Might help. I doubt it is the ac though. You should talk to her pediatrician, just to make sure there is nothing wrong.

its probably just the air getting to her at night. my mom can't be in the air conditioning too long or she gets very conjested with headaches. you might just have to shut the air off. or maybe see if a humidifier (or dehumidifier) would help
