Why are some atheists "militant" about not believing in something?

Why do some atheists exert so much energy putting out negativity about religion? Is part of being an atheist some sort of mission to trash religion and believers? As atheists, are you directed to populate religious discussion boards to disrupt conversation? Would this make atheism a sort of organized bizarro religion? If you organize on sites devoted to atheists, how much different is that than a religion and why is it "better"?

Update:

Before too many people respond with "Christians do it, too", I'm aware of that. But it's their mission to spread their word and faith. Do Atheists have this mission? Who directs them? Why the need to do it? Seems..... religious in a way.

Update 2:

"Because Christians do it too" seems to be a common answer. Religions have an excuse for bothering you, their book says go out and convert non-believers. What directs Atheists to proactively do what SOME do? How are you any better or worse as an Atheist when you behave in the exact same way?

The best thing about being an atheist is that no one has to tell us anything. We make decisions for ourselves and we follow what science offers us. Science does not 'instruct' anything. It gives you the ability to educate yourself further about what is going on around us. There are no rules or regulations, we are also called Freethinkers, which in itself says everything.

Why do we come on here to 'preach'? It is in the hope that we will educate all humans about what reality is. The biggest concern in this day and age are the 'over the tops" that do not accept climate change - this is a major pisser, because regardless of how the Earth was made, we are systematically destroying it with greed and ignorance. I could not be more militant than fighting about that.

And if Atheists weren't here to debate with you, this would just be 'church'

It's the internet. There are lots of people who are particularly strong in their personal convictions, whether it's atheism, monotheism, some political position, etc. Get over it.

And no, running into some atheists who troll internet forums does not make it "a sort of organized bizarro religion". Atheism means not believing in deity. That's ALL the word means. That's ALL it has ever meant. There's no requirement to be "militant" about it, nor is there any particular person "directing" us.

Why do you tackle those inquiries to atheists? does no longer your questions be greater accurately directed at a million) people who believe the enormous Bang got here approximately 2) people who believe that apes are at the instant spontaneously starting to be people (if such people exist) i'm an atheist and that i do think of that modern-day available evidence means that the enormous Bang got here approximately. i do no longer think that apes can become people. I additionally do no longer believe "seeing is believing." I base my ideals on evidence. while the evidence in choose of a definite theory will become stable sufficient, i'm probably to believe that concept (a minimum of until new evidence leads me to alter my perception).

A lot of atheists feel that if they stop caring about this subject, that a lot of Christians will take that as an opportunity to put their religion into every single area of life, regardless of who is affected. In many ways atheists are completely justified in feeling that way.

    >Why do some atheists exert so much energy putting out negativity about religion?

Because you guys preach that anybody who doesn't believe in Jesus Christ would have to suffer from eternal damnation. That's mind control by fear.

Because you guys use your religion to deny equal right for gays and lesbians to have equal right, to serve openly in the military and to get married.

Because you guys want to inject your religion into science class. Religion doesn't belong in science class. It belongs in religion class.

Because religions divide people. Every religion claims that their God is right, your God is wrong and anybody who doesn't believe in their God deserve an eternal damnation for worshipping the wrong God.

Because people have killed other people in the name of God. Israel Palestinian conflict, 9/11 terrorist attack, the recent Norway mass shooting, the Crusade all of them were conducted in the name of God.

There is nothing in this world that is more divisive and more destructive than religions.

The most "militant" ones are often ones that have been directly harmed by the actions of religious believers. Makes sense.

No, no directions. No instructions, no dogma, nothing. Is that really so hard to understand?

    Peace.

Militant belief is hardly restricted to Atheists. Most Christians have never taken the time to seriously consider what they believe in either. There is a risk in doing so, but isn't it important to know that you have made a thoughtful, informed decision before proceeding on any life path?

they are simply trying to make theists answer tough questions. i won't call that militant. it's called thinking critically, cuz in the end, if you can't provide a proper answer, then maybe your faith is wrong, or maybe you don't know enough of ur faith to start preaching to others (like how a teacher should be solid in the material before teaching).

Why are christians always popping up at ExChrisitan.net simply to troll? What part of EX don't they understand??? Christians have no proof of thier claims yet feel it is right to go around scaring people with thier dumb book.
