I want a beach about an hour from orlando. I've heard cocoa is nice but i really want clear water. What are your suggestions? And what is weather like beginning to mid october?

Beach season is really over by Mid October. The water is going to be way to cold to swim in. Water temps are usually in the 60's and maybe the low 70's by then.
I lived in st.pete and commuted to Disney for a few years. Clearwater beach is a two hour drive no matter how you look at it. Cocoa is 45 but I prefer the secluded beach at Cape Canaveral National Seashore which is also about 45mins away.
You need to decide between the gulf or the ocean. The gulf is usually warmer and calmer. It also has white sand beaches. It is going to be a longer drive from orlando then the ocean.
The ocean is still warm but it most likly will still be a little to cold to swim in. The sand is coarse and brown. THe water is usually rougher and more popular with the surfers.
Once you decide which kind of beach experience you want then you will be happy with any choice.

Mid October you will find almost no Floridians at the beach. Water is in the 60s and not very
enjoyable. Probably best beaches with clear water are Siesta Key in Sarasota and Fort de Soto at Saint Petersburg beach. There are a number of sprinsg fed spas in the area. Water temp year round is 72f. Closest is Wekiva Springs state park. Crystal River is a bit further but there ans at Blue Springs, when the ocean water gets cold the manatees come to visit.

Daytona Beach is a dump. The only beach close to Orlando that is worth visiting is Cocoa Beach. If you don't mind a 2 hour drive then you want to visit Clearwater Beach - a much more beautiful beach but it's a miserable drive.

You can't get clear water within an hour of Orlando. You have to go to the Gulf Coast for that.
And the weather in Mid-October is fine for the beach, especially if you're from the North. Floridians however think it is too cold.
