Why do men tend to break up with their girlfriend/wives after receiving an expensive gift from her?
I've noticed it many times. It could be an anniversary or his birthday or no particular occasion. the girl splashes out on a $50 branded tee, or a $1000 LV wallet, or a car for him. Shortly afterwards, the guy dumps the girl. Can the men explain why? Is it a lack of self-esteem? Are you afraid you cannot somehow, 'repay' the love?

Being a man, it does feel a little strange when your girlfriend tops you in the money/job side. As a man, I like to provide for my girl as much as I can and I want her to look up to me. I think sometimes when women are more successful than men, they tend to be very arrogant. Being independent is fine, but some successful women don't understand the words negotiate or compromise too well in a relationship. They tend to not act too lady-like and that is just not sexy to us. I don't need any expensive gift from my girl, it doesn't make any difference to me. Most men just like to feel that they are superior. It's just the pride thing.

For me I dated a girl that was I guess successful? Or from a wealthy family and had hookups through her job? I felt like I couldnt provide her with anything she coudlnt get herself already so I lost interest and we stopped talking after 2 weeks. Although her showy attitude did annoy the hell out of me.
