What are your views on having pastors say a prayer before a Senate or Congress starting day?
When a business begins it's day and the employees come in, do these businesses have a priest or pastor, etc. say a prayer to everyone?
Of course not. Why? Because it is unethical and against the law. So, why & how is it allowed in this situation?
Thanks
Mustag: This is the entire reason that the Europeans traveled to this country to make it their own, because of the religious tyrannical government they were already in.
I will take back what I said about it being against the law. I am sorry for the incorrect statement. I was raised to believe it was illegal to mix politics and religion. I don't understand how it can't be unethical to have a person bring their religious beliefs into a work environment and then force it upon all the other people. Definitely going to research this one.
Thanks for correcting my error.
Bob, thank you for updating me. Most people though, will disagree with you, especially other agnostics and Atheists, that their beliefs are on a faith system. They are based, in most cases, on educating themselves, science, theory, facts, etc. Faith is believing in something with no factual data to back it up at all. Which religion is mostly founded upon, in my opinion.
Agnostic Atheist myself.

It is not against the law or unethical for a business to have a prayer at the beginning of work. You don't know what you are talking about and are making fallacious arguments.
I am an agnostic, which means I have no faith either way. Those who say there is no god are acting on faith just as much as those that say there is one. The real question is how does it hurt anybody if a group decides to have a prayer before some action? It doesn't hurt me and it doesn't hurt you. There is no reason for opposing it other than simple meanness of spirit and a desire to dominate others. That is the biggest issues I have with the atheists is they want to force everybody to be like them. It is silly, self centered, mean spirited and childish.
@ I'm well educated in the sciences and, as such, know the difference between facts and beliefs. Religion rarely opposes science, even though the atheists would like to have you think otherwise. I'd be willing to bet you cannot give a single example of religion outright denying an established scientific fact. The simple fact is that you cannot prove religion and you cannot prove evolution. More to the point, you cannot disprove a direct correlation between belief systems. In having studied most religious texts over the years I find nothing in them that cannot walk hand in hand with science. Even such greats as Einstein and Fermi were religious people. Perhaps those truly brilliant people knew something you don't?
In the end, unless you can prove something in science it is a theory. A theory is not proof of anything. To claim it is a fact and denies the belief of others is faith. The claim that others would disagree with me is not an argument either.

It's not against the law.
Contrary to popular opinion, the Founding Fathers did not embed a seperation of church and state in the Constitution. If you don't believe me, read it and tell me where it does. To the very minor extent that the Constitution does mention seperation of church and state it specifies that Congress has not power to establish or abolish religion. No more, no less. Ergo, Congress is well within the law in praying before a session.
As to your claim that it's unethical -- that's just crazy talk. Maybe prayer isn't your bag. Maybe you think it's a waste of time and effort. OK. But prayer as unethical? Not in any circumstance.

i've got confidence it replaced into doing *extremely* nicely the day earlier. additionally the day after. i should be incorrect, yet i've got seen no info that the our united states took a extensive swing to the left whilst the Dems won a majority. on the choice, all of us is dissatisfied in congress because of the fact it did no longer take a solid stand *against* the regulations of the Bush administration. We threw out the Republicans because of the fact we mandatory replace, and we are nonetheless waiting for it to ensue.

First let me say that I am sorry that you have been brainwashed by the godless left and I will pray that you too can see the light.
The separation of church and state was set up to protect the church from the government, not the other way around.
Instead of trying to be politically correct we need to try to be just plain correct.

It is unconstitutional, unless they say a prayer for all religions
@mustagme, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof"
@cornbread_oracle, The SCOTUS, rule that prayer was a way for establishing religion Engel v. Vitale

Rather a pointless and archaic tradition that serves no real purpose but I suppose does no real harm either.

It is neither unethical nor against the law.

We are a Christian nation. They should invoke Jesus's Name.
Edit: Please show me in the Constitution where the words 'Seperation of Chruch and State' appear. They short answer is they do not. There is the 1st Amendment, which says 'Freedom OF Religion.' This does not mean 'Freedom FROM Religion.'

ok by me. none of this prayer or cross or nativity scene stuff bothers me one way or the other. much ado about nothing. i mean, i don't want to live in a theocracy, but i have no problem with folks meditating to their god for guidance.
