Can the Twins win the division?

I think they still can even though they are now 8 games behind Detroit. There is a lot of baseball to be played and nobody is running away with the division. I also don't think the Tigers are that great of a team despite the way they are playing lately. The only thing that gives me hope right now is that a couple of years ago, the Twins were 7.5 games back on September 7th and they ended up winning the division. So being 8 games back on August 2nd doesn't seem very bad compared to that. The way I see it, if the Twins can get within 4 games of 1st place by the end of the month, they should be in pretty good shape. Maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part, but I never count the Twins out. Thoughts?

Update:

I still think they have another late-season push in them. I think their only tough competition is Detroit because I think that Chicago and Cleveland will fall back. Also, Detroit usually fails to hold their division leads late in the season so I reamin hopeful for the Twins

July 31st, 2006: twins are 12.5 GB--->end result: division champs

    July 31st, 2011: twins are 6 GB

I think the team that has won the division 6 times in the past 9 years will win the division, also it's not even September-that one month when that certain team absolutely r4pes everybody(especially the white sox)

A few weeks ago, I would have said yes. Even after losing that series to Detroit. But now, I don't think they will. Every year around this time, their starting pitching becomes horrible, and that trend appears to be continuing this season as well. Just look at the series against Oakland and tonight's game as well. They have been able to shake off those bad performances in the past because they were usually well above .500. Now though, if their starting pitchers continue this downward spiral, then they won't even have a winning season, let alone a division title.

I think they can win it but it is doubtful. The AL Central has gone down to the wire the last couple of seasons. There was even the playoff last year after the teams were tied after 162 games. It looks like Detroit is going to stay on the top and be challenged more than likely by the Indians not the Twins.

My magic 8 ball says it's doubtful.

EDIT: Yeah I see that push happening too. But I'm not sure if it's as big of a surge as it normally is. I'm more scared about the Twins than the Indians/White Sox though. And I have a feeling that this year's Tigers team will do a better job holding the fort than previous years teams did.

Well I see all these damn Tigers fans and I have to say I'm a tribe fan and last time we missed a world series win by an inch so hopefully the tribe can come through. But i definitely think that the central is fair game for any team, maybe even the royals?

They're very capable imo. Twins are a great team, let by a great manager and great city. This year.... idk. It seems like this just isn't their year.

I'd rather see the Twins AL Central than Cleveland though.

Nope I don't see that happening this season. Why? Because their pitching sucks.

Yes they can. The Central is open for anyone to take. Its whoever wants it more. We will see.

I don't see that happening again. But it is possible.
