Legs like tree trunks, compartment syndrome?
Have had 2 or 3 occurrences in last few months where i go running and both my lower legs cease. Ran 3 miles on a track 3 days ago and was fine. Walked 12miles up a mountain the day after and was fine. Had a days rest and went for a 3 mile road run today, completed it but in pain. Is this a tale tale sign of compartment syndrome? and if so what can be done to prevent it?

Yes it is a symptom of compartment syndrome. Proper muscle stretching before and even after a long walk or run can minimize or completely prevent this. It happens when your muscles cramp and tighten. It compromises blood flow to the tissue and can press on nerves. If your condition is severe and persists you should seek medical treatment.
