by law how old do my children have to be to be left at home alone?
I live in Texas and I have an appointment to be at. I have an 11 year old, 7 year old, 5 year old, and 2 year old. Do you think it will be safe to leave my 11 year old home with them? The little ones will still be asleep, and it won"t be any longer than an hour. What do you think?
I would like your opinion and know what the law says?
Websites would be appreciated!
Thank you James that was very helpful!!!

I have 3 kids, and my opinion is that it's too risky. If anything does go wrong, the trauma it would cause to both you and the kids won't be worth it.
Best to get a baby sitter or an adult you trust to mind them for that hour

If it was just the 11 year old, I'd say go for it, if it's only for less than an hour. Only if he/she is responsible though. I was a very responsible 11 year old and I could have handled myself if my mom went to an appointment. But your other 3 are a little too young to be left alone with an 11 year old, in my opinion. What if they do wake up? I'm not sure what the law says about it though, why don't you Google it?

I think you could be in trouble there. I would never leave an 11 yr old,
with 3 other kids, esp one a toddler.
Where I am from, there is no actual law, they rely on parents judgement.
(I checked with the police, so I know that for a fact) From what l have seen
on here, that seems to be the case many places.
That said, it leaves the door open if anything happens, if any neighbor
complains, if any emergency happens, and someone reports you.
I think you need a sitter for just a bit longer

You need to call Social Services or the Police Station (and ask anonymously) and ask if the 11 year old can stay home and babysit. Where I'm from, you have to be at least 13 for someone to look at anyone younger than that age. Who knows? It could be different.

You should not be concerned about the law. You should be worried about what kind of trouble the kids might end up in. You should get a baby sitter if you cant afford one, get a trusted friend to baby sit if it's just an hour.

right that's a tale that haunts me to this present day. whilst i grew to become into 7, my dad and mom would go away me on my own after college. My sister who grew to become into 5, would stroll residing house with me and we would watch television for type of 40 5 minutes till my Dad got here residing house. We lived in a secure community, and back then all the different mothers certainly stayed at residing house, so I had chum's mom's that i'd desire to touch at a moments word.... properly at some point my sister desperate to decrease an apple, the knife slipped and decrease her hand. It grew to become into no longer deep, it grew to become into no longer super, she has no scars nor any reminiscence of it ever going on..... yet i grew to become right into a 7 3 hundred and sixty 5 days previous youngster in cost and by using myself and he or she grew to become into screaming, and the blood grew to become into dripping...... i ultimately have been given her to the associates residing house, and he or she have been given the scientific care she mandatory, yet I keep in mind each factor from the time the knife slipped till that factor. So for you, you're able to ask your self does your baby have the potential to attend to EMERGENCY circumstances, and not could think of roughly it for the remainder of their lives. Many infants start up babysitting at 13, that's probable a stable age for many to start staying residing house by using themselves besides, some may well be super youthful, some would desire person supervision late into their young human beings. Your state maximum possibly does have rules on the subject of this, touch your community district criminal expert's workplace. at the same time as no person would comprehend, or care, the 2d the ten 3 hundred and sixty 5 days previous is left residing house in a burning residing house, the D.A. would be looking the regulation books to confirm what style of crimes the dad and mom could be charged with.
