Writers: I'm having a hard time getting my ideas onto paper. Tips please?
I'm a writer. I love writing, I really do. When I get a great idea for a story, I can't wait to put it on paper and get it out there. But lately, I feel like I'm having a tough time getting the stories from my head to the paper. It feels like I don't know where to begin. Any other writers ever have this problem? If so, how do you fix it? I don't know if this is a writers block, this has been happening for a couple months now.... If it's a writers block, then it's sure a long one.
Thanks guys! I like the ideas of mapping out my story from the beginning to the end. And I like the idea of starting in the middle or starting at a significant point.

What helps me is to read books by my favorite authors (and of the same genre as what I'm trying to write) and see how they get their thoughts onto paper. That usually gives me a boost.

im not a writer myself but here are some tips:
mind map your ideas, and then using your mind map, choose what you want for your story. then write a brief plot and outline of the story; beginning, middle and end. then expand on each section; you could get ideas for each one by mind mapping again or any similar technique. carefully build your story and take your time - don't rush. make sure you write in a way which will keep the reader entertained instead of boring them and make sure the reader understands what goes on. describe the scenes and places imaginatively; and remember, the story doesn't have to be based on normal life, be very imaginative. the characters should just come to you as you write. good luck :)

Have you planned your story/idea? Start to finish, jot down general notes.
If you still can't start, then my teacher used to say 'if you don't know where to start, then put someone in a house eating an orange, and then start going through the middle. You can create a dramatic opening event once you know where it needs to lead, and edit the beginning later. It is often a bad writer that starts with the beginning and races towards the end of their creation. Start with the bits you know about, and edit the other plot events around them'.
I don't know the extent to which this will help, but best of luck!

What I like to do is start a story at a Prologue. I would come up with a really cool scene that I just write out like crazy, possibly a big part of the book, and then when you get to chapter one, you might have a better flow on starting.

Write write write write and never stop writing. About anything, about everything! Your mind needs to be trained just like anything else. Keep a small note pad and pen in your pocket and when you hear something - or come up with something that you like the description of, write it down. And read, read anything you can get your hands on... It will help you to ‘see’ into other peoples minds nad how they put their words onto paper will help you learn how to do the same. Good Luck!
