Why do people believe it's impossible not to have a belly button?

Is it because their knowledge isn't that well-rounded, or are they really that confident in their ignorance? (not stupidity, but ignorance) Serious question.

Update:

I can see Grace is one of these 'confident in their ignorance' folks I'm asking about. Let me educate you, Grace, and anyone else that believes you have to have a belly button or you couldn't be born: A belly button is an outer scar left on an infant by the umbilical cord. Let's say you have an umbilical hernia. The surgery to fix it leaves one with no scar that is typical. It may just be flat skin where my and your belly button is, thus, no, one does not have a belly button. Everyone born from a human womb, however, has the cord, just not necessarily the scar left by its removal at birth.

Wha? I don't know anyone who believes it is possible not to have a belly button. All developing fetus-es or feti need nutrition. Which is obviously tranfered through the placenta. The placenta is removed when the baby is born leaving a bellybutton. If a baby didn't hav a bellybutton, it didn't have a placenta. If it didn't have a placenta it could never have developed and been born. So it is absolutly impossible not to have one.

I meant unbilical cord. Oh well u know what i mean

Well, I could see how people would have a hard time believing that people don't have belly button because the belly button is where babies get food while in the womb through the umbilical cord . Without a belly button there is no way to get food into an infant (to my knowledge)

Unless you have had surgery (and it was remove during or because of the surgery) in that area everyone has a belly button. That is where the umbilical cord is attached inutero (in the womb) to the mother. A fetus gets nutrients and disposes of waste products (in the fetus's blood) via the cord. After a baby is born the cord falls off and you are left w/ a belly button. So if you are human and born to a mother (which everyone is) you have a belly button.

Because they are right and you are an idiot. Unless you are a clone, every person has a belly button. It was where the umbilical cord was connected from your mother's body to your stomach, providing you with calories and nutrients while you were in her womb. You could not have survived if you didn't get nutrients through the umbilical cord, so everyone who has ever been born has one. Who's the ignorant one here?

when you are born you are connected to your mom by an umbilical cord. they cut this off, and later the rest falls off and you have a belly button. to not have one you would be born with a mutation and your mom would immediatly misscariage because you get all your food and nutrients throught the cord. ie: it is physically impossible to not have an umbilical unless you are a dead fetis. sorry for the bluntness. you thinking people are conceited or ignorant by knowing it isnt possible makes you conceited and ignorant. sorry, but it is fact that you cant not have a belly button.

you cant say that people confident in there knowledge are ignorant, that is just stupid. you are basically saying that anyone who isnt 100% right is an idiot and should always doubt what they are confident in. it is physically inmpossible to be born without a belly button. even if it isnt right on your lower stomach, it can still be somewhere else, but it is still a "belly" button. people have had them surgically removed before, as it is really just a scar. you cannot say that it is possible to not have one because people have them surgically removed, that is a technicality that isnt naturally occuring. you seem to think that you must be right and anyone who thinks they are right are just ingnorant. i am getting the vibe from you that you are very conceited and always have to be right, and everyone else is just ignorant and too stupid to realize it.

It's relatively uncommon for somebody not to have a navel. In most infants, they umbilical cord breaks away after a few days and they are left with a bellybutton. However, in some cases, the cord leaves no visible makings, therefore there is technically no navel. In even rarer cases, the umbilical cord will be attached to a different body part, so in that case there's also no bellybutton to be seen. Also, some surgical procedures can leave someone without a navel, despite having had one before.

As far as why people don't believe it, it's because it's the biological norm for someone to have one. The idea of not having one doesn't make sense to them because they've never seen it, or heard of someone without it.

o.O Belly buttons happen because that's where the umbilical cord was when you were in your moms womb. It's kind of like a scar. Do you not have one?

Belly buttons are like opinions: Everyone has one, and they're all different.
