In the 1930s, many people were too proud to accept welfare of any kind.
The modern Left thinks that everything (food, a home, a job, health care, education, a high minimum wage even) are all things they're entitled to, that they don't have to even work for.
The Republicans don't want to destroy safety net programs, they just want to reduce the rate of annual increase to something where we don't have to borrow 43 cents of every dollar to pay for our entitlements. At that rate, our nation will be bankrupt in 10 years or less.
Democrats label Republicans as "extreme" for simply doing exactly what Standard & Poors, Moody's, The Bowles-Simpson commission, the CBO, the GAO, China, and every responsible group evaluating our nation's finances advises.
Republicans push for what they recommend.
Democrats keep spending.
Until 2012 anyway.

Do I 'think' that? No.
Do I know that for a fact because those cuts are actually in the Republicans budget plan and have been voiced by a number of Republicans publicly? Yes.
- TaniaLv 710 years ago
to ask that would be the same as asking if I believe republicans. since they have claimed to want just that.
so do I believe republicans? the answer is no.
if they say things not to be believed then they clearly don't want to shut them down. if their goal is to be taken seriously, then yes. they do really want to shut down at least 3 of the 5.

Yes, yes they do. One just needs to read their comments once a week to see that they spread misinformation all the time. If they even read Paul Ryan's debt plan they would see that that was not what he proposed at all. Yet, I blame the liberal media more for feeding them the lies.

Well, they want to balance the budget with cuts alone. We currently borrow 40% of what we spend. That means in order to balance the budget, we'd need to cut 40% of all spending. Since the programs you've listed (plus the military and medicaid) account for ~80% of the budget, you're going to have to cut the hell out of them.
So yes, I really believe that, because it's a mathematical necessity.

I strongly believe that. Except shut down public schools. But I think they will make budget cuts for public education.

Yes. There are many who had made the case to do just that. The Tea Party has taken on a big lead in
speaking for all of you! So if you don't agree with them- you need to change parties
- Anonymous10 years ago
Can you name some republicans that DON'T want to shut down those programs?
- anti psychopathLv 410 years ago
You can only judge someone or some political party by their actions and their ideology. So up to today judging by their actions and their policies, I would say yes to your question.

no, the republicans number one goal is to make Obama a one term president. mitch mcconnell said that. They don't care about anything else, not even jobs.
