Will someone help me with wages?

I'm about to work at a stable as a casual weekend helper and the wage is minimum. I tried to calculate how much a day that would be and It would be £39. This is my first job but that sounds like alot of money for one day. Is that a normal wage or am i adding up wrong? Its a 8 hour shift and im 18

I don't know what the minimum wage is where you live, but your calculation is probably right.

When you're young and haven't worked before, minimum wage seems like infinite money. But from the perspective of someone who needs to pay rent, pay utilities, pay for cell phone/internet/TV, pay for auto insurance and gas for a car, and of course necessities like food and toiletries...suddenly it's not possible to live comfortably on minimum wage, and the true nature of what "minimum" means becomes clear.

4.92 (minimum wage per hour for 18 year old in UK) multiplied by 8 hours = 39.36
