you dont understand football if you compare the two as the same type of player. each have different styles of play, messi is finesse and rooney uses strength and power and likes to drop deep and create for his teammates primarly. both are exceptional and messi definitely stars more than rooney.

Rooney's a Great Striker . He Has Good Skills and He Has What It Takes To Be a Complete Striker . He's a Tremedous Header and He's a Goal Scoring Machine . But,You Can't and You Won't Compare Him To Messi . Honestly,Messi's a Magician and He's From Another Planets He's a Dream Player . You Can't Compare Him To Rooney,Never Ever ! Maybe,When Rooney Has Some Awesome Players On His Side That Can Help Him Create Tremendous Records,Then,You're Allowed To Compare Him To Messi .

Rooney is not as self-centered as Messi. He is more of a team player. Last season, he didn't score much goals. But, you must be blind to ignore his assists that created too many goals for other players.

People compare them for their importance to their respective club and their ability to create chances and contribute with their all round game.
