a head gasket is nothing but gaskets, which can be anywhere from $2-$50 each and labor to get at them.

assuming of course its ONLY a bad gasket......

to get the head off you have to get the intake and exhuast out of the way and need those gaskets, and possibly one or two others. parts will be under $200 for just gaskets though, possibly only about $100.

its the labor that kills on this type of job.

however, its actually not really that hard, and the only "speciality tool" needed is a decent torque wrench (NOT beam type, those SUCK).

with a service manual by either haynes or chilton to tell you how, step by step (haynes is the better beginners book, more of a "for dummies" format), this is a job you cna do yourself and save enough to buy ALL (including the basics, the wrenches and sockets you may already have) the tools you'll need and still have some left over.

another good option, possibly a better one for you, find somebody who works as a mechanic and has done this type of job before. even if they charge a lot, its still gonna be $50 or less per hour compared to $90 or more at most shops.

+1 on getting the Haynes manual. Procedurally it is an easy job. The hard part is removing parts, removing tight bolts, and being careful not to break bolts and re-oil all gaskets before sealing. First step will be unplugging battery, then remove spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor, valve cover, belts, and work your way down.

depending on the shop it could range from $300-$800

it is best to go to every possible shop you can find a quote on b4 u decide which is best

a headgasket new at honda dealership for $50 where aftermarket ranges from 30 to 50 from your local auto store.

    labor is the expensive part

this is as much as i can help

    good luck

It looks like $700-$850 in my area - you can put your actual zip code in the estimator for a better estimate range. The labor looks like about 5 hours - it could be worse.
