I heard of some underweight horses...?
..in the next town over. So I made a trip out there to see for myself. The owner acted as though they were all fine.
Animal Control was called and concluded the issue wasn't severe enough for them to intervene. They said that she has been reported a lot and at least she has narrowed her heard down from 20. They also concluded that the three year old roan stallion was only moderately thin! Originally the owner was going to give me a couple of the horses.( I really didn't want them, but wanted to get them out of there) I said I would go home and talk it over with my husband.
Meanwhile the AC officer told the owner that she was reported by someone who had made a recent visit to her place and took photos. So, when I called the woman to see if she still wanted to give up a couple of horses she was livid.
I think the AC officer was out of line and made poor judgment calls regarding the situation and the horses.

What do you think?
Thanks for your answers.
A couple more notes. She wants the horses. She is planning on still breeding. The lil choco mare is her star brood mare now. She has two and three year old colts that she wanted 2500 and 3500 for. She doesn't feel like she is doing anything wrong. She told AC if they could do better then they can take them.(which they of course didn't)
Animal control said they have no place to put them if they seized them.
We work with a Rescue group, that will find foster homes.
Ac asked for permission to go on the property and it was days before she allowed them to. Giving her time to remove the shelter off the stallion and have water in each corral.
She has been turned in several times over the years and will reduce her herd by temporarily placing them then get more. WE have a vet that is going to do a well check there today. If she will let him.
The town itself is reluctant to do anything because of a previous case.

Wow. Keep doing what you've been doing- these horses ARE unhealthy. Horribly so. This AC officer should be fired. I don't know what to suggest other than continuing to do what you have been. These people need to be stopped from breeding & even owning horses- and if you keep at it enough, they'll have to do something.

That is crazy! You need to take the owner to court, as well as the AC! The horse is way too thin, and if a judge sees this, they are darn screwy if they dont think that horse is skinny or thin. Blows my mind when people scale down the severity of something that insane!

Oh my those are so skinny! I actually want to be a vet when i grow up but my other option is an animal control officer and hopefully i can put a stop to this nonsense! Those horses need taken out of there asap!

Wow! So many problems here! SEVERELY underweight horses for one, not to mention the broken shed right on top of that poor stallion! This is crazy. I can't believe the AC was letting this woman get away with this!

Yea, welcome to the Good Ole Boys network. The AC officer should get fired for giving out that information, but probably won't. The lady shouldn't be raising anything, and should be forced to rehome her horses-- Missouri Foxtrotters are in demand, so probably she can find someone to take them. However, she's probably already bred the mares to her stunted stud, to raise babies that won't be halter broke or wormed or vaccinated.
Keep posting the pictures, keep being the squeaky wheel, and contact the media in your area. I know it's frustrating, but what they all really want is for you to be quiet. Don't give them what they want. :)

I think she should be jailed, or forced to give up the horses and banned from keeping them for life! There is no way that horse is not in danger! What is George thinking of? Certainly something needs to be done.

Looks like a bad call on the part of the AC officer. You would not stand a chance in court, tho, as law dogs stick togather. Stir up the media.!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THIS HORSE IS SO TIN ITS UNBELEIVEABLE... Take him to cort, show the pictures! Get that horse out of her power... These horses shouldnt be living like this... if you dont want them take them to a rescue yard just dont let her keep them... I got my horse from a meat man, she was thin but not as thin as this...!

Seems to me that everyone here is beyond stupid and the horses are still the ones suffering. Doesn't matter about right and wrong and who done what to whom, it is about the horses. HELLO!
