What to wear at a winter wedding?

Question

My friend's wedding is coming up and we live in Chicago so it's very cold. I was wondering what kind of dress I should wear and what colors NOT to wear at a wedding. I was thinking of wearing a simple structured emerald green dress with sheer black tights...or a pencil black pencil skirt with a knit blouse for the top with sheer tights? What about a simple black dress?? Suggestions for shoes? SO MANY QUESTIONS!

I know it's early but it's a huge wedding...and I'm very excited.

I think that your ideas are good - the tights are probably going to be a given if it's so cold, but i think you'll also definitely need a shrug or something for your shoulders.

How about a dress like this: http://www.outerinner.com/knee-length-sheath-elastic-woven-satin-ruffles-cocktail-dresses-pd-01281-7.html   - in emerald green, and then wear a shrug around your shoulders, or a black pashmina or something (as if you're in a big church or hall it might be cold), I think sheer tights would be OK with this even though it's not super long. Black heels would also be a must.

This one is pretty dressy, but I like the asymetrical cut and it's longer which is more traditional and will be a bit warmer - http://www.outerinner.com/sheath-short-applique-asymetrical-evening-wear-pd-01734-19.html - once again some kind of scarf or shrug would be needed, and the good thing about that is that you can ditch it in the reception if you're dancing.

BTW, links are from a site that I like called outerinner, got a couple dresses from them and price, color and quality was OK, so I'm suggesting them as an option. If you need more options then I think you can always try Google shopping which is also a favorite of mine - just type in the color and type of dress etc you want and it will bring up cool options and prices.

Emerald dress sounds great but i wouldnt suggest wearing black tights maybe just skin colour ones and a simple black or cream shrug. Then as the dress will be the focal point wear plain low black peep toes and emerals toe varnish. 

or wear a simple lbd and go mad with vibrant shoes and a printed pashmina.
