Is a shoe a mechanical device?

Are shoes little more than foot covering, or are they at such a high level of engineering that they would be considered a mechanical device?

    They do have moving parts, like laces or buckles, velcro, elastic. Could be a mechanical device.

    No, I would say that it is a protective means, and may give some sort of a foot support.
