Car wouldn't start, then I heard a ticking noise that wouldn't stop till I unhooked the battery?

I had to have it towed. The mechanic said he thinks it the battery connections. He replaced them, it seems to start ok now. I guess my question is: Where did the ticking noise come from?

Sounds Like your starter solenoid. short circuited because of the faulty BATTERY connections. good call by your mechanic. He's definitely a Keeper

A rhythmic ticking sound, about 3 times in two seconds, is a security system immobilization indication. The relay you hear ticking is supposed to be flashing the lights. How to reset that varies with make, model, and year of the car but I guess the mechanic got past that.

there was not much contact do it was no enough power to run the starter/engage the solenoid. The same happens for a dead battery. Answer- Starter
