Is Rick Perry going to be able to convince Americans of the 'Texas Miracle'?

when the numbers do not add up to the fantasy?

here is some info from the ' texas insider'

(Debt owed by the state of Texas has doubled during Perry’s tenure as governor; the state’s per-capita debt is worse than California’s. And this year, Texas lawmakers wrestled with a budget shortfall that Associated Press called “one of the worst in the nation.” Perry’s budget relied heavily on federal stimulus funds to plug a massive 2010 budget deficit. The budget finally passed this year cut some $4 billion out of state support for public education and is expected to result in tens of thousands of teacher layoffs.)

Even as he railed against the Recovery Act, Texas Gov. Rick Perry used the government's stimulus plan to cover 97 percent of the state's budget deficit in 2009:

Turns out Texas was the state that depended the most on those very stimulus funds to plug nearly 97% of its shortfall for fiscal 2010, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.

Texas, which crafts a budget every two years, was facing a $6.6 billion shortfall for its 2010-2011 fiscal years. It plugged nearly all of that deficit with $6.4 billion in Recovery Act money, allowing it to leave its $9.1 billion rainy day fund untouched.

"Stimulus was very helpful in getting them through the last few years," said Brian Sigritz, director of state fiscal studies for the National Association of State Budget Officers, said of Texas.

In FY 2012, Texas' deficit is projected to come in at $12 billion, more than 30 percent of its budget -- the third highest rate in the country.

    Uh, no.

The main reason his state prospered is because the price of oil went way up and new drilling techniques were employed to get to the shale oil which until the barrel price went up was cost prohibitive.

It's not a miracle in any sense of the word.

He is no better or worse than Bush.

The only miracle here is if people believe the hype without checking the facts.

And he is not a friend of education.

In the end education is always the best way to make sure Americans stay employed.

Texas is in no better shape than other states.

    It's all a grand illusion.

Besides, nobody wants another President from Texas so soon, because we all remember what Bush did.

That nightmare is still very fresh in the minds of the electorate.

Texas cost variety deficit is ranked third optimal in the rustic at 27 billion! i do in contrast to Rick Perry. nevertheless Texas is a great % of the completed US GDP. Texas may additionally stand because it particularly is very own country, and has. Take Texas' debt as a proportion to what Texas contributes, and that's small while in comparison with what something of the US contributes vs it particularly is very own debt. that's upwards of eighty% of GDP. lots of the debt accrued via any state is that of Federal mandate. i'm sorry, however the states would not spend the money in the event that they the place no longer compelled to via federal regulation. •Texas makes up 12% of all state debt in the US yet only 6% GDP In 2008, for the seventh year in a row, Texas led the united states in export sales. Texas exports for 2008 totaled $192.2 billion In 2002, the Port of Houston grow to be 6th between the actual sea ports in the international in terms of finished shipment quantity; Texas has the fifteenth greatest GDP in the international. it is only a state, no longer a country.
