I hope that his death galvanizes Canadians back into political conscience. Many of us are apathetic and could not care less. Many don't go to vote or give back to the community.

Mr. Layton had faith that we could make Canada a better place than it has ever been before. Do you know why? Because he taught us all how.

When I say that, I'm not referring to narrow political ideas. He taught us to become active and work as a part of our communities. His biggest lesson was that we cannot remain apathetic if we want Canada to become everything it can. If we can just hold that to heart, there is still a lot of hope for this country. It will still be bittersweet though, as we have lost a great Canadian and a true man of the people along the journey.

The future of OUR country is what WE make of it.

If anything the NDP should only come out stronger once they find a suitable leader.

To be quite honest the average citizen has to care more about the welfare of others and the future of his country in general if we ever want an idealist party like the NDP to succeed.

Not saying it's impossible just that we have to put more effort into showing how much we care about:

    - Full Governmental Reform

    - Social Services

    - Taxing the Wealthy

    - the Environment

and how about adding some funds to the Global Aid budget as Africa is STARVING.

Jack you were one hell of a hero and you've made an activist of me.

Jack Layton has NOT passed away and God willing, he won't for a long time yet.

Layton is one of the most charismatic politicians Canada has had - probably only second to Pierre Trudeau. But he isn't the only person who cares - and, as you may have noticed, his party is only in opposition, not in power, so the future of the people does not lie with the NDP. At least, not at present.

It seems likely that without Layton, the recent gains of the NDP will be lost and it will fade back to third party status.
