Christians: Did you ever change denominations?

Christians: Did you ever change denominations?

Christians: Did you ever change denominations? ... for example, from Methodist to Baptist, or from Catholic to Protestant.

Why did you leave your previous denomination? (Did you read something in the bible that convinced you? Did the new denomination provide a better social life?)

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Was raised a Baptist and a Catholic-hater. Learned that the Baptist beliefs regarding the cessation of the gifts of the Spirit were erroneous and moved into Pentecostal/Charismatic circles. (The Baptist claim that the verse stating "when that which is perfect is come" referred to the King James Bible was not something I could repeat with a straight face.)

Was absolutely certain I would never even consider Catholicism because of what I had been told were their extra-Biblical beliefs. Then, over the course of two years, I examined their beliefs more carefully including the Biblical justification for them. I also read about the beliefs and practices of the Early Church, and was forced to conclude everything I'd been told about the Church was a lie. I was admitted to the Catholic Church this past January at the age of 53.

I have not fully explored the social aspects of my new Church. If anything, they seem a more reserved bunch. The Pentecostals are the partying church.

  • I used to be a Methodist/Southern Baptist

Raised Lutheran, confirmed Methodist, sing in the band at an Anglican church. I was still pretty young when we left the Lutheran church, and my parents settled on Methodist because they liked that particular church, not necessarily the denomination. Same reason I attend the church I do now--I really like the pastor there, he's quite engaging.

I list myself as non-denominational on government forms because I don't agree with all the doctrines of any denomination.

I was 50 years as an evangelical Protestant. 25 years as a minister. I converted to Catholic Christianity over 10 years ago. Here are my thoughts at the time from my blog:

I was not raised in a Church going family, but started walking two miles to Sunday School by myself when I was 12. It was a Baptist Church. ... I went until I was 13 and then they one week they had a "revival" to raise money to build a new church.

The "hellfire and brimstone" preaching .....followed by blatant coercion of people (handing them blank check to sign, something that you could do back then) to contribute money for the new church, made me disgusted. I walked out and never went back.

As a young adult, I tried multiple churches, but none of their pastors could answer the questions I had about the Bible.

When I was 30, someone came to my door and started talking about the Bible and caught my attention with something she said. ... Then I asked her many of my questions that no one else had ever answered for me, and she easily answered them from the Bible.

    That was 42 years ago.

Yes, I used to be Baptist and now I am non-denominational. There should be no divisions in followers of Christ.

grew up going to the Episcopal church but then I got baptized in the Holy Spirit and spoke in tongues same as the the disciples and since my church did not believe in it God took me to the charismatic churches and there were others there that spoke in tongues and that was where I stayed and God began to train me in all kinds of things.

see under my avatar to know what.

    I am a Penecostal now

I praise Jesus that he moved me to the church that moves in the gifts and believes in healing

Source(s): Camille people cannot get healed unless they believe it and how can they believe it till they are taught that the bible says it I was never taught that when I was growing up in the Episcopal church

Nope. I stick with non-denominational churches. Denominational churches add their own traditions and rituals not found in the bible.
