requirements to have a server at home?
hi guys. i have a thesis project and i need to have a server. can i use a simple windows xp professional OS or i need to have a windows server OS or mac server OS? i am planning to use MySQL for my database. if i do need a server, what requirements do i need?
this is going to be placed at my home. and i am going to use an android cellphone with the application that i made.
The flow will be from the android cellphone, i will connect to the internet and open up the application that i made. Then the user will have to sign up. the data of the user will be placed in my server (which is at home). this is just an example but this is the main idea, to be able to communicate the application to and from the server.

If you're using a program for the server then any OS is perfect. Yes Windows XP Pro will server well as a good server (depends on your system specs). Although I recommend using Linux (Ubuntu) as your server OS. Also since you're creating the app for Android, windows or Ubuntu is fine because Mac Server OS is not so flexible and customizable. At least a p4 processor and at least 2 GB RAM and since you will store data a good 1Tb hard drive.
