If a black man calls me the N word?

Would it be alright for me to call him it back?

Serious question. I work security and had a black male steal from the store that I work, upon trying to apprehend him he ran away telling me to "stop chasing me, ni...." you get the point. Would it be appropriate at that point to tell him "I would stop chasing you if you would come back to the store, ni...."?

Update:

If not, why not?

Update 2:

Alright, I didn't call him any names.

And I seriously doubt had I, he would have turned around and beat me up.

To build relationships with people in a short time, and get them to comply with what you want, it's easier to speak on their level. I just feel like this is a double standard. If you guys didn't assume, I am white. If he calls me the N, I should be fine with it, if I call him the N back, I should expect to make him mad and get beaten up? I don't get it.

hes a criminal and you are in a position of authority. When you are working you need to keep your demeanor. Why stoop to his level of ignorance? He is not worth it. I would think if he was smart ( lol most criminals are not) he would not come back to the store anyways to avoid being arrested. But as I said criminals are stupid and they don't think clearly.

No, of course not. He's a criminal and you're working security. You want to be the same as him? You don't seriously think he's stop running and come back if you called him the n-word, do you? Of course you don't. So you just want to call him the n-word because he called you that and your feelings are hurt? Because you always want to call black folks that, and this seems like a good excuse? Seriously, why would you want to?

Yeah sure, it's a double standard. Lots of things are double standards. Black folks have to put up with a lot more racism than whites. Poor folks have to put up with a lot more indignities than rich folks. Kids can't do lots of things adults can do. Just the way the world is. Seriously, don't look for more reasons to get annoyed by things like this, or you'll spend a lot of time being annoyed. And who would you rather be, you, or him? So why stoop to his level?

    u sound foreign.

The word ****** can be used as an expression of fondness from black person to black person or black person to anyone else. You can not however say it back to them. Too much negative history behind that word.

It's a cultural thing. Black people use to "strip it of its power" or "they own it cause it's not racist coming from them". Better to avoid saying it altogether to avoid any unpleasantness.

If u must speak slang, use the word Dawg, Bro, or dude.

If you would like the guy to beat the crap out of you rather than run, you should definitely call him that. But use the actual word instead of "Ni...".

No. just call em dogg or dude. Ni**a is what ghetto colored people call each other. Ni**er is full of hate and ignorance.

No don't say it, I mean he stole from the store of course he wouldn't mind you know talking nonsense but you wouldn't want to loose your job for saying it or get suspended.

Personally those are harsh words. To me it would just make him more angry. Approach the situation with a good taste of manner.

If somebody spits at you, will you spit him back? And if you do, what will happen?

You don't have to do what you think is disrespectful, otherwise you are of no different from them at all. Just do your job, and do what's right and not what's wrong.

Hope I've helped. God bless you mate :)
