Is replacing a computer's hard drive worth it?
My cat was nice enough to knock my computer onto the tile floor smashing is open and ruining the hard drive. I still love him, but anyway the computer itself was fixable but the hard drive, (which of course is unfortunately the most important part) is ruined. I was wondering if its worth it to replace the hard drive or if it would be better to just buy another computer. If its better to replace the hard drive how much would it cost?

It depends. How old was the computer? A new hard drive costs less than $100.00. However, if it was the system drive and you don't have Os install discs, that's another $100.00 or so to buy a new copy of Windows. If you're paying someone to do the work, add in another $50 or so for labor. If the computer was fairly cheap to begin with and is more than 2-3 years old, you're probably better off replacing it. Also, there may be damage that's not immediately visible.

Replace the hard drive, they're only $50 to $100. The catch is that you need a disk to reinstall your operating system. It would be like replacing a dvd player because you lost the remote.

replacing the hard drive is much cheaper than replacing the entire computer, you just need to format the new drive and install windows and the drivers onto it
