When did your child begin "writing" and "drawing" to where you could tell what it was?
My son is 3 and knows all his abcs and numbers, shapes, etc. However, his handwriting isnt very good. We practice and he is pretty good with cirlcles and of course the number ones. His triangles are pretty good but sometimes get to looking a little curvy. Im perfectly aware this is normal. My question just is, do i continue to work with him on this now or just let him scribble and have fun? I usually sit with him about 10 minutes and "practice" maybe once a week, other than that, he just scribbles and has a blast. When is the usual age for drawing and writing? I know in Pre K which he will start next year, they begin writing ABCs by connecting the dots.

My daughter turned 3 in July, and she does a good job. We work each day on writing letters, and she loves it. She shocked me the other day by drawing a lady bug, it wasn't perfect, but I could tell what it was! She can also draw people, a big circle & their arms/legs come out of it, lol.

I think that's pretty good. My son is 3.5 and he cannot draw anything recognizable. He has low muscle tone and gets occupational therapy weekly and is struggling to do a line or a circle. He knows his shapes but couldn't draw a triangle.
I think your son is just fine for 3, my son is outside the normal range due having low muscle tone but from what I see of other kids, there is a big jump in ability say between 3 and 5 in this area. I think practicing with him is absolutely fine since you are keeping it fun, but I wouldn't sweat it either. :)

my almost two year old draws "balls" which look like blobs, but it's more or less a round-ish sort of shape. Other than that he just scribbles. I remember my niece used to draw balloons pretty good when she was about two. She's in preschool now, she's four, and she is quite an artist. You can keep working with him, but it's okay to let him just have fun.
