Rice recipes for people who don't really like rice?

I know, stupid fragment, I feel like an idiot. Forgive me, I'm kinda tired.

ANYWAY, we eat rice a couple times a week, but I'm usually just eating it because I "have" to because I cooked it. I don't really like rice unless it's in burritos, pudding, or fried with egg. I've cooked it with different stocks, I tried making risotto a couple times, but it's just so BORING. So, are there any simple recipes anyone knows to make rice actually be super tasty and delicious? I usually have brown rice around. I find I like it more than white, although it's kind of a pain to cook.

The trick is to season it before you cook it.

Rice absorbs all the flavor it can while cooking. Once it is cooked, thats as good as it is going to get.

The trick is to season it like crazy.

Try this next time you make rice as a side dish.

Saute finely chopped onion, celery, carrot and garlic in a bit of butter or oil(Iprefer butter). When the onion is just translucent, add the rice and stir, sauteing it slightly.

Add the amount of water you need to cook it and then add 1 teaspoon of chicken or beef or vegetarian soup stock for each cup of rice you will have when it is finished. I chose the soup stock that matches my main dish meat.

If you like it spicy, make one of the veggies you chop a hot pepper.

Brown rice only takes a bit longer than white rice. Other than that is cooks the same and also needs the water seasoned for the same reason white rice does.

My daughter sautes ground beef, adds rice and taco seasonings and simmers until tender.

She serves it with refried beans, and taco toppings and Doritos chips. The kids scoop it up with the chips and it ends up being a hearty chip dip supper.

Rice dishes are only boring if you don't season as you go.

If a food tastes boring, spice it up, add more flavors you like. You can't just say, wow, thats boring, lets eat it anyway...?

My Mom and Grandma have made this for years.

    Glorified Rice

"Serve this sweet, colorful rice dessert with your next holiday meal! Rice is combined with crushed pineapple, mini marshmallows and whipped cream, topped with a maraschino cherry."

    Ingredients:

    1 cup uncooked white rice

    1/4 cup white sugar

2 (15 ounce) cans crushed pineapple

    1 cup miniature marshmallows

    1 cup heavy cream, whipped

    6 maraschino cherries

    Directions:

    1. In a saucepan bring 2 cups water to a boil. Add rice and stir. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 20 minutes.

    2. In a large bowl combine the cooked, cooled rice, sugar, pineapple and marshmallows. Fold in the whipped cream. Chill for 4 hours.

    3. Spoon the rice mixture into 6 dessert dishes and place a cherry on top of each.

We only eat rice with other foods like curries and stir fries, never as a plain side dish. Occasionally I'll make a spicy fried rice with whatever's in the fridge and pantry. Sometimes we have it as a gluggy ball-ish thing (pack steamed rice in a small cup and then up-end onto your plate) as part of a Gado Gado salad.

Anyway, I was just looking for a recipe - didn't find it, but found this instead: http://www.ricecube.com.au/Recipes.html - seems cute.

Combine the first five ingredients; spread on both sides of chicken. Place chicken on plate. Marinate at room temperature for 10-15 minutes or for several hours in the refrigerator. Grill, uncovered, over medium coals, turning once, for 10-15 minutes or until juices run clear.

What about serving rice as a garnish? Butter rice go well with cream-based sauces, eg. fricassee and stroganoff.

Sweat finely chopped onion in butter. (Finely chopped, smaller than rice.)

    Add rice to it.

Add stock to it. Season with salt and pepper.

    Cook.

I'm not trying to be rude, but I don't really understand eating something you don't like. Explore other whole grains like barley, quinoa, amaranth, millet, and don't forget oats and corn. You might also try different types of rice like jasmine, basmati, pecan and add seasoning while it cooks as the other answer suggested.

I definitely prefer fresh vegetables more. I don't like all the acid generally in most fruits.

Fruits are developed from the ovary in the base of the flower, and contain the seeds of the plant.

If you don't like rice, why would you want to eat it?
