I was thinking in terms of a handgun.

A round is a cartridge, or one complete unit of ammunition. A shot is the result of someone pulling the trigger of a gun with a round in the chamber. A round is an item, a shot is an event.
I hope that clarifies things.

Shot someone pull the trigger and shoots the gun to fire a shot
A round is a complete piece of ammunition with the bullet, casing, and primer ready to fire.
A bullet is the lead ball on the top of the case of ammo
The case is steel or brass and retains the smokeless powder that propels the bullet.
Lastly the primer is on the bottom of the brass/steel case. It gets hit by the firing pin.
Honestly rounds and bullets get confused more often and there is a going joke that if you order bullets online your going to just get reloaders lead bullets to load into your own casings=D
I suggest just enjoying time on the range and you'll learn all the differences through experience.

A round is what you use in a rifle or pistol,an example would be a 30-06 or 9mm.
Shot is what comes out of a shotgun shell, the most common being bird shot and buck shot.
Then you have slugs, which is either a shotgun slug (fired out of a shell) or the actual bullet from a round (hand gun or rifle).

In the beginning they used the term shot which has been kept for loose projectile rounds such as for shotguns hence the name again. Like Buck Shot, Bird Shot are rounds but called shots.
The term round came in when they discovered having spiral grooves in the barrel made projectiles go further. This made the bullet spin round which again the term coined for the round.
