Can someone tell me what Social Security means in this letter?
Today I received a letter stating that I had chosen not to receive medical insurance under Medicare. Then it said I would receive September's Social Security income on the fourth week of October. Does this mean I will not get my regular monthly check in September? Will I have to go two months with no income? Why would they stop sending me my monthly payment because I elected not to take Medicare? I have other insurance.
I will of course call Social Security on Monday. I just thought someone on here might know, or may have gotten a similar letter. When I read the letter I just about panicked.

I'm guessing your birthdate falls on a day somewhere late in the month. I don't think you're going to be missing any payments. My October payment is for September, my November payment is for October, etc. And it has absolutely nothing to do with your refusing Medicare Part B. My ex-husband was born on the 23rd of the month and his payments are late in the month, like yours. My birthdate is early in the month and I receive mine on the 3rd, as does my present husband, whose birthdate is also early in the month. It's also possible that the date may change to an earlier one. Hang in there, Tom, I've been there and it is so difficult to wait for that first check. Also, if you have any back pay coming, it will come in one fell swoop.

You've already said you plan to call the office on Monday, and that's what I was going to suggest. No, I can't tell you what will happen to your September check. But I do have an extra action you could take before Monday. Have it on the record online that you didn't wait 'til Monday. Monday, your local, closest office will have that in the record. I assume that's the call you plan to make. I don't expect you will get a conclusive answer about September, so be prepared to ask whatever person answers you inconclusively to speak to their supervisor for confirmation, then get that confirmation in writing.

Social Security payments are always a month behind, so of course you will receive your September payment in October. Your August payment should arrive in September.

That makes no sense. Maybe they made a mistake. I would call the Social Security office and ask them why. If you have other insurance, then you do not need Medicare, I would not think, but if you later decide you want to take Medicare, I know that they will penalize you and take out for the time you did not have it.

First, are you positively sure that the letter was sent from SS administration, and that its not from some insurance company looking to sell you more unnecessary insurance when they have no intentions of paying you anything to begin with.
Call the SS office, and get the number off of their website not from the letter.
Once you're over 60, you need to be careful with allot of the garbage you get in the mail. But, this will go away when they close the post office.

May I suggest you contact the Social Security office? They should be at least as accurate as anyone here. This means I don't know and perhaps others don't as well. I hope you get the answers you are looking for and I for one am curious. I am glad you have other insurance as well which maybe is why you are not as concerned as I would be enough to question the SS office. Good Luck

What is your regular Social Security payment date? Check with the main SS office and ask them if there is any change in your benefit amount or date.
You have not given enough information about what transpired prior to this letter. I assume it didnt come out of the blue.

You are always one month behind in your Social Security payment. So, in September, you should receive your payment for August. I think you are ok.
However, give them a call and make sure.

You'll receive a SS check this month, but it will be for August, since the SS checks always run one month behind. In October, you'll receive a SS check for September.
