Do You Claim To Be a Writer?
I never claimed to be a writer
the words just fell out there
spilling onto paper
not always making sense
started out as a little diary
as most girls usually do
writing about life
like it is important
when probably, it's just life
I've loved a few people
probably hated many more
wasted lots of days wanting
and wanting and wanting
had major bouts of depression
laid in bed for days on end
but I never claimed to be a writer
did you?
Survey says: NO WAY!

Often I have witnessed that people who are gifted in the Arts (writing, theatrical, painting, dance, etc...) are also plagued with chronic depression or are Bipolar. I don't know why that is but it might have something to do with brain chemistry. (but that's another topic altogether)
I am no exception to claiming both amateur writing abilities and Clinical Depression. Claim your talent, Shirley, even though the very act of breathing is spiritually painful sometimes. You are a writer.

Wasted- lots of days
wanting and... wanting.
Had depression, those bouts.
Laid in bed for days on end

Did you?
Now that was a poem! You have the words, don't let the meaningless interfere.

Couldn't say it, had to write it
write everything down, get it out of the gut
far better than being in a rut of silence.
A diary as a girl, love letters to a beau
schedules and lists as a young mother
even on the job and so it would all go
until . . . poetry.
Poetry evolved from
feelings swirling, twirling about
nothing to make anybody jump and shout
but from a love of the words
letting them flow from a keyboard
to become a language all their own.
Yes, I am a writer at heart
but it's not a 'bad thing'
to call myself AND
it doesn't mean I'm a good one.

Hi Shirl.
I've never claimed to be anything but goofy and/or gay.
I write every day of my life for about 16 years now, always pray
I can sometimes get it right, never felt a block,
don't live by any clock,
but poetry
is a passion for me,
and help when it's offered
fills my coffer.

Of course I am a writer! And a pretty good one at that! Now, how come an artistic and cute avatar like yours, never visited my posts, just to check? Or you did? I am not uppish at all (!!). I am just appraising my supercilious attitude, because I have not much of modesty running through me.. I guess that being humble is not part of my character, and I expect people to challenge me honestly, never to honor me with falsity or try to dishonor me because of stupidity. Hello partner, I salute you, friendly, Giorgio

Had to confess to it. Got paid to do it for 10 years and about three million words. It has been long enough now though that I can deny everything.

Sounds like you have a lot to write about take your pain and hopefully you can make something beautiful happen.

I say I scribble scraps of thoughts,
my pen started out, similar as did yours.
whatever you want to call yourself keep penning
you have something to say,
I go from hit to miss and just keep on for the fun of it.
