Help cancelling RAC cover?

Hello,

I bought RAC breakdown cover online from them nearly two years ago on my first car. Since then I've moved on to a different car and have breakdown cover with my insurance company.

I called to cancel my RAC cover which they said they did but then I received an automatic renewal notice and had the money taken from my account. Called them up and asked, WTH man? They said sorry and promised to cancel and refund me. But then it happened again! I just got another renewal notice today and the money had been taken from my account. Oh and I never got the refund from the last time either :-/

Anyway, is there any way I can prevent them from doing it again? I dont want to do something drastic like switch to a different bank altogether....

Thanks for your time

I had a similar problem with RAC vowed never to use them again. Make sure you pester them for your money back. If you go into your bank ask them to cancel the DD in respect of the RAC, or if you have internet banking, you can cancel it yourself.

I am assuming that by the term "it" you mean your previous car insurance? Not that "it" refers to the new car registration. Maybe the new car has never been plated or insured.. Be perfectly clear with the insurance company on these matters. They are just as bad as lawyers. Assume nothing. That would have been a very good question to ask them directly. "If you cannot find my car insurance on the system- what am I cancelling? Where did the money go that I spent for car insurance? That is a logical question which requires a logical answer. There is no if's, and's or but's here. You are always going to have to pay for them doing the paperwork. For a time it was free; but then someone saw a "reason to get paid" on those people who did transfers- "say from car to motorcycle to car again" The insurance company wants to get paid for the secretarial duties. If it is insurance that they were suppose to have a record of - that is their problem. If it is car registration; then that is more your problem.

You can cancel the standing order with your bank, this way if RAC tries to take the money out the bank will stop it. Contact your bank or do it on line, i've done it before.

It's no different with the AA. Had loads of problems but before they got any money fortunately.

As stated earlier, cancel the agreement with the bank so they cannot take the money.

There are many ways that companies try and get you to renew contracts, often automatically. I have found that many of the newer internet based companies offer far better service. If you ever need breakdown cover in the future I can recommend: www.road-assist.co.uk.
