Should I be a conservative or a liberal?

I'm not trolling, I really want to know what you think because I'm not sure.

Liberal things I can't stand:

Animal rights activism

Public sector unions

Social security/medicaid/welfare

Hating on Christianity (like tearing down Christian monuments because they're "not PC")

Liberal things I love:

renewable energy

Healthcare/finance regulation

Taxing the rich

Drug legalization

Conservative things I can't stand:

Hating on Islam (my girlfriend and my coworkers are Muslim and they're definitely not dangerous)

Combative partisanship / name calling

Refusal to acknowledge science (evolution, ecology)

Isolationism / ethnocentrism / unilateral foreign policy

Conservative things I love:

Patriotism / American exceptionalism

Gun ownership rights

Privatization

Self-sufficiency / not blaming society for your problems

In a two-party political system you gotta take a side. What do you think?

Update:

Dubstep: yeah if I wanted my vote not to count for anything.

Obamasuc: recall I mentioned name calling...

You should be whatever feels right to you and don't let others influence you. I do like Paladins answer...that you can believe in liberal things without wanting the government to force them on others...of course that would be libertarianism, in that case. A couple of your ideas I have to question...like conservatives hating Islam...we don't, we only hate Islamic fundamentalism/terrorism...there are many good upstanding Muslim citizens in this country. Also, please keep in mind that both sides have their share of partisanism and name calling, but the media just draws more attention to when the conservatives do it. And taxing the rich? Why should success be punished...would you think the same way if you were successful and independently wealthy? That is the question you must ask yourself on that matter. Being a conservative is being responsible, and putting yourself in the "what would I do in that situation" scenario. Being liberal is being a victim. Now think about what you want to be.

sure, properly this purely demonstrates that maximum folk finally end up being a contradiction in words. are you able to call that a paradox? provided that the choice is actual of course. as to if liberal conservatism could properly be embraced by skill of those conservatives who're greater liberal than easily conservative, i think of, is something that could desire to be debated liberally in a conservatory way.

We don't hate on Islam, we hate on Sharia law of Islam and Farrakhan the nutjob Muslim leader in Chicago- the hate spreader.

Drug Legalization will never happen under anyone.

There is no proof of the Darwin Theory- to think your relatives were Apes- to me sounds totally Crazy!

Gun sales have skyrocketed under Obamas leadership- proving he is scaring Americans more than any leader has.

S.S. most repubs want to just FIX and make DC Politicans stop spending that money they have no right to spend.

I do blame Unions for destroying Corps because they are getting greedier everyday, more demanding- more controlling and more violent- like commies! They are at fault for so many factories leaving America- and they want more UNIONS? WTF! Its a power grab- and would destroy this country !.

You don't have to toe a party line. Hold firm to what you believe and don't compromise with either party of corporate loyalists. You don't need to call yourself either. Many independents and libertarians do not.

You sound like a libertarian, and seem to be disgusted with only the extremist views of each side.

Surely you are not -equally- invested in each and every one of these issues..... pick the two or three issues MOST important to you and vote for the candidate(s) who are closest to backing you on those key issues.

You'll never know the consequences of being liberal (by definition).

"Ignorance is bliss" is a very, very old saying. It's as if we've always known about the ravaging affects of liberalism.

You should do whatever feels right for you, You don't have to be affiliated with any party.
