Problem item in Device Manager?

I use XP, and in the Device Manager is listed an unknown item. It's got the big yellow question mark next to it and this is what it says..

Audio Devices On High Definition Audio Bus

Driver not installed for Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0888&SUBSYS_14627309&REV_1000\4&3B3BB592&0&0001

Anyone got a clue what the hell this means?

Thanks

This is the "realtek high definition audio" and what it means is the drivers are missing.

I have uploaded them if you want to grab them

    http://www.mirrorcreator.com/files/MSMQGZ8Z/WDM_R2...

Just download from one of the mirrors unzip and run setup.exe

If you are wary of Geeks bearing gifts right click on the item in device manager and select Update Driver and point it to the WDM folder there is a .cat file in this folder so they drivers appear to be signed.

If you have a yellow question mark next to a device in device manager it usually means that it requires the driver to be updated.

In your case it looks like the driver should be installed but is not.

You will have to install the driver. In device manager for that item you can narrow it down to a point using the options that it gives you to roll back / reinstall, or search for a driver in a couple of different ways, which might work.

If it does not then go to the website of the manufacturer of your PC / laptop and the drivers are normally available from there.

Failing that, sound drivers are normally "Realtek", try the link below to get a check of what is missing:

    http://driverplex.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/a...

but if they ask for money then search other sites, such as:

    http://uk.search.yahoo.com/search?p=realtek+driver...

Hope you get it sorted, Bob.
