vegetarians, why broadcast the fact?

why is it vegetarians have to make a big deal about being one, just read the food and drink category, nearly every other question is about it, you,re not going to save the world all by yourselves or all of the creatures who live on the planet they have been here a lot longer than we have and they aren,t extinct and never will be no matter how many people eat them!! everyone has the choice of what they eat, I don,t eat red meat because I don,t like it but I don,t broadcast the fact just like the meat eaters of this world don,t put questions on this site, so come on if you,re a vegetarian, vegan, carnivore or whatever please keep it to yourself, I,m sure other people will agree

Update:

i agree everyone should have there own opinions but why is it always the vegetarians making a big deal about what they eat or don,t eat

Thanks for the opportunity to answer this. I can tell you now, if I say anything anti vegaterian, I'll come back in an hour and there will be several thumbs down.

There is a bunch on here that will back each other up, right or wrong, they have a 'my way is the right way' attitude and are only interested in their own viewpoint!

There's so many kids coming on asking about what is healthy, or wanting to lose wait.

Hang on, you's are just kids, eat whatever you want, you are growing, think about healthy diets when you're 40. eat well and exercise, lead a balanced diet.

A growing teen will need meat. There's gunner be 100 thumbs down and negative comments, insults and abuse over that remark, but that is my point! Criticise me any way you like, I read so many comments from people on vegetarian diets, lacking energy, their doctors tell them they need to eat meat. Then the crew jump on and tell them they only need to eat this or that.

And then there's the myth about how cruel meat farming is, they torture animals, what a crock!

There's gunner be an argument about that too!

I'll be looking for my favourite contributors to back me up, deer hunter and aunt daisy!!

Source(s): edit 3 hours later and still 6 thumbs down. still gunner give myself best answer though! Pretty much proves my point!

"why is it vegetarians have to make a big deal about being one"

Do they? Funny, I thought you came to the V&V section, we didn't come to you to 'make a big deal'.

"you,re not going to save the world all by yourselves"

So? Not throwing trash on the street isn't going to make the whole world clean. Do you throw trash on the street because you can't make the whole world clean by yourself? Or do you refrain from littering because the small difference you can make actually matters?

What does animals going extinct have to do with anything? We are aware of the fact that animals are BRED for consumption, you know.

"everyone has the choice of what they eat"

Yep. Me as much as you.

"I don,t eat red meat because I don,t like it but I don,t broadcast the fact"

    Actually you just did.

"just like the meat eaters of this world don,t put questions on this site"

You haven't spent much time here, have you?

"so come on if you,re a vegetarian, vegan, carnivore or whatever please keep it to yourself"

I don't tell everybody I meet "Hi I'm Suzy and I am a vegetarian". I tell people when it's relevant.

You however felt the need to actively come to the section of V&V where people can ask questions about vegetarianism and veganism (exchange recipes, ask information about nutrients and so forth) and started advertising the fact that you are NOT a vegetarian and how everybody else should shut up.

You do see the irony, right? You are getting in MY face about YOUR diet, not the other way around.

I agree, vegitarians/vegans I have met always seem very proud, which is ok, but then some seem to try to convert meat eaters into veggies, and the conversation gets messy. We all have strong opinions about lots of different things, but some people feel the need to try to get everyone else to follow them on their journey of choice when it comes to the moral reasons for not eating animal product.

Personally I dont care what other people do or dont eat, or why. Agree best kept to oneself if its going to create an argument or awkwardness.

Hmmmm you seem more than a little touchy on the subject. It's not our fault that Yahoo! has decided in its infinite wisdom to place all the V&V questions in the general F&D section as well as in here. I could make the same complaint about the Australia section and say that questions from the Sydney section keep coming up in there, and I'm not from Sydney, so I don't want to keep hearing about Sydney all the time. :P There, see how petty it sounds.

We don't (normally) ask/answer questions in the "general" F&D section, we do so in the V&V section. If you don't want to read about vegetarianism or veganism, then all you need do is not click on questions in F&D that have a V&V sub-heading. Simple as that. Or is even that too hard for you?

You're still here? Crikey! Ok, try going to the Religion & Spirituality section and ask a similar question there... "Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, why broadcast the fact? Why is it that you religious types have to make a big deal about being one? Please keep your beliefs to yourself, I'm sure other people will agree!" or go to the Politics section and ask "Republicans, Democrats, why broadcast the fact? Why is it that you political types have to make a big deal about being one? Please keep your politics to yourself, I'm sure other people will agree!" See what kind of response you get. No? Too chicken? Thought so!

Number One : This is the veg*n section, where WE come to discuss and get advice.

Number Two (hee hee) : In my experience the only time in life when "we" broadcast the fact, is when we are offered food or invited out to eat. There is no point in going to someones for lunch if they are going to be serving beef, so we have to let the person know.

Answer me this though : why is it after meat eaters discover the fact that you don't eat dead animals (nor living ones!) they suddenly become nutritional gurus who know EVERYTHING about food?

Why is it that it's the meat eaters who suddenly become aggressive towards veg*ns when they find out that we don't eat the same as them?

Oh, and most meat eaters don't broadcast their diet in general. But, the amount of people who have gone "ummmm meat........" over the years to me is immeasurable.

  • First of all learn the difference between apostrophes and commas.

Second of all there are about 5 posts on the vegetarian food and drink category, so yes, we are taking over the world. Sarcasm incase you didn't get it. Also, YOUR the one that came over HERE to rat on vegetarians. And isn't this AMERICA? Don't we have FREEDOM OF SPEECH? I have the right to voice my opinion and so does everyone else. And I have NEVER heard a vegetarian make a big deal of it. Unless they're just informing someone of where they stand. Haha now all the vegs are trolling you ;)

    So smart, aren't cha.

To start with, that isn't even a question, its a rant.

Secondly, stop using commas where you should put apostrophes.

And finally, this is a space for vegetarians and vegans. You don't have to read it if you don't want to. And veg'ns believe that what happens to animals is wrong. They don't have to hide that just because some people don't want to hear what happens to animals in the real world. When I started at my school and formed a group of friends, I was the only veg'n. Through them asking questions and me answering them, now two of them are pollo-pescetarian and one is pescetarian, and one is still omnivore. As people who now what goes on, when surrounded by people who have no idea what they're contributing to, I think it is absolutely fine to talk to them and question them just as they will surely question you. I never say to people that they should be vegetarian, or insult omnivores for being omnivores. I just explain why I am vegetarian if they ask, and I'm not afraid to ask them, politely, why they eat meat. I don't think that's doing anything wrong.

Veg'ns don't have to hide who they are.

Source(s): Born as a pescetarian, became vegetarian when I was nine, now becoming vegan.

Simon Rimmer is a television chef who owns a vegetarian eating place. he's an omnivore yet specialises in vegetarian nutrition. i understand this is not any longer strictly talking a vegetarian chef although this is the terrific i'd desire to arise with. ?

SOME (very few) vegetarians post troll questions and answers about omnivores in other food and drink sections.

SOME (very few) omnivores post troll questions and answers about vegetarians/vegans in this section.

Both groups are posting to get attention, or from ignorance, or just because they like to start arguments. I do notice that this section seems to attract more anti-vegetarian trolls than the other areas attract vegetarians/vegans.

I'm not a vegetarian, but I do read this section, and I post when I think I have something to offer. I find that the majority of our vegetarian/vegan members show the same respect in posting in other areas.

Don't generalize about an entire group of people; it makes you look small-minded and ignorant.

At this very moment there are exactly 3 questions on the front Food & Drink page that come from the 'Vegetarian & Vegan' section. And this is one of them. Hardly taking over the boards, are we? Who said we're trying to save the world? We're not going to make animals extinct are we. Phew, I'll tell my pet Dodo that. When I find him. Oh, wait..........

I personally don't care what anyone else eats. I'd appreciate the same consideration.

I have been vegan for nearly 2 years and have never 'broadcast' that preference. However, others who know, respect and admire me for my dedication and beliefs have a tendency to mention it to others, in spite of the fact that I prefer keeping it to myself especially during meal times.

If you don't want to hear about, maybe you should stop coming into the Vegetarian & Vegan Section of Yahoo Answers.
