vegoterranian community?

I've been checking my answers today, and I notice the answers I have given on other topics; in food and drink, have a fairly even range of ratings.

However, any of my answers on the Vegoterranian section, (which do appear on a public forum, and are there to be answered by anybody with an interest, understanding, or knowledge).

Any of my answers that do not support the general consensus are consistently rated down.

there seems to be a sector within this community who will rally together and defend themselves at all costs, like a collective conscientiousness!

I'm impartial on this subject, but I will answer as I see fit. try not to be contentious, sometimes! Well sometimes I like to poke a bit of fun at stupid questions.

but your thoughts please, why does there have to be such a bipartisan mindset? Can't the Vegoterranians accept they can't always be right, not blindly follow each other like a cult, and mark down anything which seems to threaten their mindset.

I'n not attacking the lifestyle, just the way they ignorantly follow each other on here, like sheep!

Also there's plenty of fishing here for trolls, they only gotta dangle a lure in the water and all the Vegoterranians rise and bite! Why do you think that is? They are easy pickings, you dont go fishing where the fish aren't biting! If your looking for a wind up ask a question about meat in the vegoterranian section, or the animal crackers one, haw haw haw, not...

Don't let your beliefs interfere with reality!

This has been bugging me for a while, so time to speak my mind!

Personally I believe it's the age of some of these contributors, tweenies wanting to lose weight, others concerned for all the poor baby animals.

That's okay I've got children and I understand the concerns, but don't you think it's time you took it somewhere else? maybe start a closed chatroom for vegoterranians only? You's can all sit there and fix the worlds problems and nobody will bother you, or challenge your assumptions!

Now, if anybody's going to answer this, please; stay on topic, don't turn this into a personal attack against me for voicing my opinion. I'm not attacking the lifestyle, and I'm not labelling myself as Vegoterranian or otherwise. I've been reported as abusive recently for answering a simple question!

But if you do respond, for my curiosity could you also post your age; for those of you that don't have photographs!

Update:

Roy, I don't agree my answers are wrong! You may not agree with them, but they are my opinions based upon 30 years industry experience.

Okay I might not always be right, a matter of personal opinion, but this is still a legitimate question.

Notice there are question marks!!

You can't just report me, I have a right to my opinion and I would like to hear the opinion of others on this topic as well. So if you could let the question/statement stand and allow others to contribute, I'd appreciate it!!

Update 2:

Hi Y'all, I am being a bit flip is all, I'm not trying to attack the Vegoterrannian community, that's not my intention! I'm not really asking why I get so many thumbs down, I've changed my profile name, Glib's okay, but sorry if it's OTT.

I'ts not just about me, I see any contrary answer to a certain doctrine gets marked down, why can't people think for themselves, which is why I'm curious and looking for feedback.

Myself I am a head Chef at a mining camp in remote Australia, I cook my guys 2 meat dishes a day, a pasta and a rice, I always got to great lengths to cook a vegetarian dish and healthy choices; that the guys will all eat, I hate wastage!

I hardly ever eat meat, unless I'm getting a bit run down, So that's what I mean when I say I'm impartial, I'm not trying to attack anyone's beliefs, I'm putting this out for debate, my apologies if I'm a bit terse or confronting, but this has been bugging me for some time.

If I have raised it as a statement I'm trying to explain myself If

I can't really speak for all of your answers (I must say I've seen a couple bad ones from you, as well as some good ones), but I have seen a few from you, and even a few from the much maligned Daisy that were, indeed, entirely correct, but got lots of thumbs down. I don't really get why. I've seen a few of my answers go that way too, again, not entirely sure why.

I get why incorrect answers and troll-type answers get thumbed down. I don't really get why correct answers would ever get thumbed down, even if they're from someone no one particularly likes.

As for the rest of the stuff about vegetarians being sheep: You could say that about pretty much every cultural sub-group. Actually, you can say that about EVERY cultural sub-group. I don't think it's got anything to do with diet. It's human nature to want to fit in and go with the flow of your chosen sub-group, even and especially if that sub-group is flowing in the opposite direction of the other sub-groups. I feel I've overused sub-group.

Although, I do have to say, there are more trolls here than other sections, and people rise to them fairly easily. This is also the case in the Parenting section. Although there trolls are normally met with mild disdain and some snark, rather than the massive uprising of fury occasionally seen here.

I've just had a bit of a look at some of your other answers. You know what? You rarely answer the question. Here in the veg section I've found your answers to be glib and smart arsed (you asked, so I'm telling you).

There is no conspiracy here. No one colludes with each other to thumb people down. There is at least one person who has multiple accounts and uses it to thumb down perfectly good answers from veg/ns, but there is no one on the other side with multiple IDs that goes through giving multiple TDs to meat eaters' answers.

The thing is, this is the veg/n section. If someone asks a question related to vegetarianism or veganism and someone else pipes up with an answer about meat or is ranting or generally unsympathetic, then they will cop a lot of TDs for not answering the question.

Also, your user name is in incredibly poor taste (and more than a trifle unoriginal), which probably accounts for a certain percentage of the TDs you get. I personally have never given you TD, but I whince every time I see your name on the screen. (If that's your real name then I feel sorry for you and suggest you adopt a nom-de-plume.)

Edit: and I've just seen your even less charming new name. Looks like you have some issues with maturity. These names are not clever, just tedious.

Oh, and I'm 49, like you. Been vego for almost 33 years.

Further edit: yes, Moojoo I've also seen some of the pro-meat regulars getting unnecessarily thumbed down for decent answers. The difference between them and you is that your answers are non-judgemental and never smug - if only everyone was like you!

Impartial? Sure, making up names like 'vegoterranian' really shows off your impartiality.

Do you actually believe that impartiality story yourself? Then why not say 'vegetarians and vegans' or 'veg*ns' for short and why not refrain from condescending remarks about 'poor baby animals'?

I mark down answers with wrong information and insulting answers. I mark up correct answers. I do both regardless of who gives the answer.

You really protest too much about your answers being wrong. Is it SO hard to consider that sometimes you may have the wrong idea? That maybe not everything you think you know about nutrition and the vegetarian diet may be correct? That possibly you, like anybody else, THINK you know something to be true because it's been ingrained in you all your life, but that you might be wrong about it?

I know I have had to revise things I thought I knew about food over the years. In other words, to admit to myself that I had been wrong. And I still learn new things. Is it so impossible that you, like me, don't know it all?

About my age: I'm a week shy of 32. I know vegetarianism is not a weight loss diet. And if you want to belittle my decision to become a vegetarian as a way to reduce the amount of suffering in the world as 'concern for all the poor baby animals', go right ahead. But at least admit to yourself that this attitude is hardly 'impartial'.

Vegiterranian? Wow. You spelled it that way at least 5 times. How about we'll answer and rate however we want to. You're about to get another reported question because this is a big rant/chat and it's against guidelines.

This category is NOT for your rants. It is for vegetarian topics.

  • How do you think about the answers? You can sign in to vote the answer.
  • I agree, we are very united. Note that many of us are attacked on a daily basis for our food choices so yes, it can get to us. I don't find it a subject of relevance at all.

Agreed, don't see why you have to be reported. It is an opinion.

Well, Mike, since your answers in this, and all the other food and drink categories are usually WRONG, they tend to get less than stellar marks. Go figure. Now, since this particular 'question' is not really a question, but a rant, I urge everyone to report this violation of the Y!A Guidelines.

It's because your answers are generally wrong.
