Is rejecting parts of science you don't like the same as rejecting parts of the Bible you don't like?
I'm just curious why religious people can accept certain parts of scientific theory as fact but not others, like evolution. Why would you accept that gravity keeps you on Earth, or that certain chemicals can cure disease, or that germs cause disease, or that the earth revolves around the sun, or any other number of scientifically deduced and tested facts and discoveries, but you reject things like global warming or biological evolution? Is this similar to the sort of "cherry picking" people do with the Bible, where you follow the commandment against murder and theft, along with hatred of homosexuality and abortion, but choose to ignore the rules about what foods to eat, what days to keep holy, the restrictions against wealth? And if you get to pick what you believe and don't believe, why then is it so wrong to so many that I don't believe the same things? Really, just curious to see if anyone can come up with a logical or reasonable or even passionately argued but persuasive rebuttal to this question.
PROBLEM:" I don't think I know you. This wasn't a question aimed at every individual whose beliefs and bias vary. It's a general question addressing many general beliefs espoused by thousands and millions of people, some of which are running for the office of President of the United States. I think, therefore, it's a relevant question to ask. I'm sorry if I didn't take the feelings of a person I don't know into account in asking it.

I can't reject parts of the bible I don't like. God's word does not bend to my will. Neither does God. Some parts of it don't apply anymore (namely the law of Moses and penalty of death) but that's thanks to jesus. That isn't cherry picking. Just how things went down. I love science. Forensic science is my favorite but after studying evolution all my life, I know that it is nothing but a fairytale. plain and simple.

Well there are some who do that, but nobody should "believe" in all science. For example, evolution happend, the germ theory was proven, and gravity is clearly true, but global warming has less scientific backing. And although there seems to be some merit, I'm honestly not fully convinced of its cause. As soon as I see 100% verifiable proof I'll be sold

Depends on whether or not you have evidence to offer in support of your own theories. If you reject a scientific theory and can demonstrate why said theory is incorrect, that's progress. It happens in science all the time. Theories that had been in place for years have been proven dead wrong, and compelling evidence was offered to show why they were wrong. The scientific community looked at the evidence and said "Okay. That makes sense." On the other hand, if you reject a scientific theory with mountains of evidence supporting it just because your religion says its wrong, that's just asinine.

I do not reject any part of the bible.
Christians, look on the old testament as the ancient history that led up to the birth and life of Jesus. The new testament is more modern history. As gentile believers, it is the laws Jesus left that we have to try to follow.
Just as some present day laws are different in America from a lot of old laws that used to be on the statute book of your country. You are an American, and do not follow some of the now obsolete laws that were put in place during the birth of your nation. That does not make you a bad American. you are not cherry picking which laws you wish to obey. You are simply moving with the times, and allowing those old laws to slip into history. It is the same with Christians and some of the old biblical laws.
Jesus was questioned about the ancient laws by the pharisees and others. He said it was not the food we put in out mouths that defile us, but what issues from our mouths that does (what we say about each other) When asked about which day to keep holy, He said man was not made for the Sabbath, the Sabbath was made for man. In other words It is a day of rest and worship that is important, not any one given day. He also said that those who chose to follow him would no longer be under the old covenant, but under the new covenant that His death would usher in. (The age of Grace)
As far a science goes, Christians do not reject global warming I do not know any who think there is not something far wrong. For myself, I think that the present things we see happening around us to the planet, are partly through a natural planetary cycle and partly through mans appallingly bad stewardship of the planet. We were supposed to care and nurture it and all that is on it, That was why God created us here. Instead of spending billions trying to stop the planet doing its own thing, we should be trying to address our mismanagement and investing in ways that will allow us to survive through the planets natural cycle. But as I also believe that Jesus is going to return one day, I also have to keep a look out for the signs depicting that. The bible tells us there will be scientific signs , natural signs, political signs and a falling away of moral and legal responsibilities.
Dunno if that makes sense to you. sorry it ended up so long. It is just part of my take on things, and not the view of every other Christian, we are all individuals.

P.S. I do not reject the old testament. A lot of what it tells me is very helpful in my walk with God. I am just very glad I am under the covenant Jesus brought in.

I accept evolution. Global warming is here and will destroy us. If we cleaned up our act tomorrow it would take hundreds of years to get the carbon out of our atmosphere. I am for gay marriage. I think it's the woman's choice, even though I hate abortion. Why do you think you know me and how I think because I am not an atheist?

No, because one is based off fact generally. The other is based of opinion and emotions.

Cause some of the stuff about that is classified as science is true. Some of it is not.
The science text book is not an all or nothing package.
