How Does Your Dog Do With Babies/Kids?

I was just wondering how other peoples dogs do with babies/little kids?

My dogs a chipug,my cousins two dogs are yorkie/malti poos, and people tend to think small breeds dont do so well with little ones but they do excellent with my son, whos only 11 monthes, and my dog especially loves little kids.

Also, my sisters pit and my neighbors german shepard/malamute/wolf love to love on my son. These are the only dogs weve really had any extended interaction with but still.

Anyways, how does your dog do with kids?

Update:

joylynn:

yeah my dogs grown up with my son;weve had her since puppyhood and shes only just now a year a half.they went through the baby stage together, now hes a toddler.i supervise their every interaction, because i agree the wobbly loud toddler can be a little frightening of youre only so small; even if you realize that the little loud thing is one of your family.

Update 2:

Sammy Gabbie:

My son is walking. He uses my dog to walk, they walk together. It's pretty cute actually. And, we've taught a lot of the poking and hitting out of him, he actually pets and cuddles her like we do, very gently. Its the stupid parents who let their kids do that kind of stuff without reprecussion that end up in the er with a one handed kid.

My dogs are well socialized with children always supervised of course i have 4 children of my own and 2 on the way but i brought all 4 of my children up that they respect the dog they don't annoy the dogs they are allowed to play with the dogs under my supervisiON.

If you bring your children up to respect your dogs and teach them right from wrong there should not be a problem .

My dog is ABSOLUTELY amazing with my son, He's 2 1/2 now. She is a 10 month old Staffordshire Bull Terrier, and honestly.. she's a little piece of heaven. I'm not proud of my son's terribles two's, but as an example, i've caught him on more than one occasion... choking her.. pulling her tail.. just walking up and kicking her... jumping on her(and he's a BIG boy. 40lbs, and she's only 25lbs) and she just takes it. She never growls, she never barks, nothing. She doesnt even hold it against him, she'll walk right back up and snuggle on him... love him up. She does however, get upset if you wrestle with my son, (she thinks your hurting him) she WILL growl then. haha. My hubby always jokes saying that someone could rob us blind and Bella would watch. But if they knocked Kaden over on the way out the door, she would tear them to pieces. hahaha. and it's true, she's so friendly.. but you don't mess with her Kaden! haha :) Oh, and it's not just my son.. We visit back home where our familys live alot, and my hubbys brothers girlfriend has a 1 year old daughter and she's great with her too:) and every child encountered at the petstores too of course:D

My dogs do great with kids but I have a 2 year old so they are used to them. I think toddlers can be scary to dogs because they resemble the humans they know but they are wobbly, squealy, and etc. I always closely monitor my dogs around toddlers and my toddler around dogs.

That being said, I think toddlers are often a greater risk to small dogs then the small dogs are to them. Toddlers are unsteady and mine has tripped over and fallen on top of my dog frequently. My toddler is also at the age where she is absolutely fascinated with feeding a dog. This isn't a major problem with my two huge dogs but smaller dogs may not have such strong stomachs. Toddlers who haven't grown up with dogs may also be very rough with them and, regardless of how small toddlers look to us, they are big compared to some small dogs.

All of our puppies have done well with little children. We get them at 7 weeks and are careful to expose them to children from the beginning. We are also careful to supervise our puppies around children. Our puppies may be larger breeds, but 7-8 week olds are still on the fragile side.

Tge problem is usually the other way aroumd and involves parents, who don't constanly supervise dogs and kids togther. I can tell you once your son starts walking, it's much more important to constanly supervise.

I have a lot of little kids come up to my dogs, even kids whose parents say are great with dogs, and theyll poke, slap, etc. Because of that, i'm a firm believer that kids and small dogs don't mix.

generally quite well and like them, though they also let us know when they had enough by retracting too the door out too the dogyard so they can be let out

but kids coming too us do not get too interact with the dogs freely, its supervised and under instruction on how too behave, so we go in with them and with small kids sit down with them, and instruct or in case of small kids show them how too behave with the dogs, and correct them if they show undesired behavior (yes that is the kids i meant not the dogs which we havent needed too do this with as long as the kids behave)

Unfortunarely, rescues have seen far too many parents that don't do a good job supervising, same goes for breeders, that they won't,sell small sogs ir puppies to people with small xhildren. Now pet, stores don't give a xrap who they sell to, and neither do bybs.
