Good Apps for Kids/Parents?
I just got the new iPhone and I'm looking for apps that serve a purpose for parents or are educational. Ideally for children around age 2, if for the kids. So far I have the American Red Cross First Aid app, Toddler Flashcards, and Nighttime Lullabies. Help me out?(:
1 AnswerParenting8 years agoBest Ways to Start Potty Training?
We want to start training our 2 year old son, but we're not sure where to begin...at all.I'm honestly daunted. Dad and are separated but we agreed to choose one method and be consistent no matter where he's at. We bought a potty for each house, and the grandmom's did as well. They also offered advice but we were iffy. So, we need to know where to start, how to keep it up, and everything so we can ditch these diapers.:D
My son completely gets what the potty's for also...he's tested it out a couple times now.
3 AnswersToddler & Preschooler8 years agoCab You Believe This?Other Parents Please Give Us Some Input?
I apologize for the length.
My friend T and I were good friends for a long time and our sons grew up together throughout their first year (they're 3 monthes apart agewise). Well, T and her husband, A,were speculated to have been on heroine prior and during her pregnancy because their son, AA, was born with a seizure disorder and infantile withdrawal symptoms. We only speculate that part, but its fact that they became bad addicts after he was born. CPS was called on them by her mother and they were given a warning.
Well, my dad, who lives by them, was driving by the other day and saw police activity. He stopped by to see what was up, and ironically the policeman there is a family friend of ours, and he divulges this:
Early that day,AA had been rushed to the hospital for a violent 15 minute long seizure. His condition doesn't allow for seizures that long and since birth he's been on treatment to control it and has actually been stable since 6 monthes old.he continues:
It was apparent in the ER that the seizures were drug induced, and blood tests show that the two year old was ODing on HEROINE. I became so livid hearing that, I couldnt believe it. Apparently AA had gotten into some of that and our friend was there to collect AR,Ts daughter from a prior relationship, who's 5. CPS has the children in protective custody and an investigation is pending.T and A were supposed to be detained from seeing the kids already and were meant to be in rehab. This shouldn't have happened. Now the kids aren't permitted to see any of their family and its just really ****** up.I had to vent,I've helped raise these kids and tried to keep them safe from their parents **** behavior but now,it all seems to have been for nothing. How could anyone be such a bad parent?AA was non with a brain/sleep apnea disorder also and no he's even more fragile bodywise.:/
1 AnswerParenting9 years agoQuestion About Co-Bathing?
It may seem a little unconventional and weird to some but a lot of people I know co-bathe with theoretical infants. It sounds creepy I know but, its much simpler than trying to get yourself bathed as well as baby. And its actually a fun bonding experience,I feel. But anyways, I wanted to seewhat other people's opinions were on the matter.
Do you think its appropriate?
If so, what age should you quit?
If no, why not?
I cobathe with my son occasionally but since he's 15 monthes now we don't do it as often, as he's learning body parts and its just awkward.
BQ:Do you think its okay for kids to "sit ain't in the bathroom, as a foundation to potty training?
Its all I've heard to do to set the ground for the potty training that's coming up soon..but I feel strange with my son in the bathroom? Does this really help, explaining all the mechanical to them and letting them watch?Even my Pediatrician says to do this!
5 AnswersParenting9 years agoQuestion About Daycare?
So during the days instead of our friend watching our son (15 monthes) we've decided to put him in daycare part time. However, I'm kind of nervous. The place is phenomenal and I'm not worried about how hell be treated but, I'm anxious that he wont be very social, that hell get homesick, or that he just wont adjust well,I suppose.
Is there anything we can do to make sure the transition is easier on everyone?I want him to be around kids his age more, because he's really only been around older preschoolers/ toddlers and two other babies his age. We just don't know anyone who can arrange playdates with kids his age...but we feel he needs more social interaction than just us and the family.Any daycare tips?
He's fully vaccinated and I'm not worried about him getting any major diseases or being abused or anything like that;the people that run the daycare are good acquaintances and the other parents and kids that attend really love it.I'm just worried.:/
3 AnswersToddler & Preschooler9 years agoTemporary Flea Treatment? ?
I can't get my dogs flea meds for another week and a half due to billing issues, and I'm mad. She just picked up some fleas from the woods by our house and the meds were supposed to be here on time to prevent that but, alas, things happened, and now she's so itchy and scratchy that she's biting her backside so hard that she's getting little abrasions that swell and make her more itchy.
She's allergic to flea saliva, and she also has breed-related dry skin, which is usually managed with oatmeal bathes and prescription lotions (Benadryl and Dermasil) but combined, an endless circle of irritation and dry, flaky skin starts. Its so frustrating, I don't know how to help her.Its not just her either, these fleas are biting EVERYONE in our house. Extra strength flea bombs are coming with the meds but I have to wait for that also
Is there anything we can do in the mean time? She's been dewormed for multiple types of worms and is UTD on all shots so I'm not worried about her or us getting an internal disease from the fleas but this is a very very frustrating situation.:/
Also,I can't give her temp flea drops because then her prescriptions can't be administered. Yet another irritating twist. My poor pup.:(
1 AnswerDogs9 years agoA Few Toddler Questions for Experienced Parents?
okay so my son is 14 monthes old and very healthy but I have a few questions (he's my first so bear with me please and thank you):
He hits/pinches/etc himself when he's frustrated, is that normal?
He can barely speak (beginnings of words, quiet words, can't say them clearly no matter how much we work with him), and his doctor said that if he's not saying a certain amount of words by 18 monthes then that's bad... true or false?
He throws fits to communicate and I don't know whether to discipline him or bear with it because that's how he chooses to communicate....what to do?
5 AnswersToddler & Preschooler9 years agoHow Much Formula Should My 11 Month Old Be Drinking Daily?
I couldn't find a good answer to this like, ANYWHERE.All anyone talked about was sippy cups and cow's milk.
So my son is 11 monthes on the 7th, and he's bottle fed.Well, recently since introducing cow's milk WITH THE GUIDANCE OF HIS DOCTOR, he barely drinks formula. He has like, maybe two or three 5 to 8 ounce bottles of formula a day, and then of course he has his graham cracker snacks, his two or three meals of jar food/fresh fruits and veggies/or mixed grain baby cereal, and a sippy of either juice or whole cow's milk.
I feel like he should be eating more formula? We're quitting formula completely after his first birthday, but I still feel he isn't getting enough while he's still on the formula?I need some help his pedi is on vacation and nobody has given be a succint answer so far. It's really stressing me out; I don't want him to get iron defficiency anemia;I have that and it's terrible./:( I know baby cereals are iron rich and I know we can get vitamins if need be but I'm still a little scared about the amount of formula he drinks.
In a clearer format, here is his most typical eating schedule:
Morning:Mixed grain baby cereal or jarred baby fruit, sippy of juice or milk
Nap-formula bottle,usually 5 or so ounces
Snack-Half a graham cracker
Afternoon:Small meat snack with or without jarred veggie, sippy of juice or milk
Snack-Other half of the Graham cracker
Nap-Cow's milk bottle
Dinner:Jarred veggie or jarred meat
Bedtime:Formula bottle or cow's milk bottle, most usually formula, always 8 ounces

9 AnswersDogs10 years agoHow Does Your Dog Do With Babies/Kids?
I was just wondering how other peoples dogs do with babies/little kids?
My dogs a chipug,my cousins two dogs are yorkie/malti poos, and people tend to think small breeds dont do so well with little ones but they do excellent with my son, whos only 11 monthes, and my dog especially loves little kids.
Also, my sisters pit and my neighbors german shepard/malamute/wolf love to love on my son. These are the only dogs weve really had any extended interaction with but still.
Anyways, how does your dog do with kids?
9 AnswersDogs10 years agoSeen a Few Q's...What Would You Do If Your Child Were G/L/B/T?
I saw a few questions on this topic today and also, coincidentally, my fiance and I had this same conversation yesterday.I really want to know other peoples opinions on it, whatever they may be. Just out of curiosity.
We have a son and we've decided that if ever decided he were g/b/t,then we'd be completely supportive and okay with it.What about everyone else?
Oh,and no bashing.I'm just curious.

4 AnswersParenting10 years agoDoes This Stress Her Out or is it Fun for Her?
Background:
My dog Pip is a 1.5ish year old chipug (chihuahua pug cross) and she was rescued from a puppy mill when she was barely half a year old. We've had her since and she's grown very attatched to me over this past year and a half;she has separation anxiety but she's very sweet and loving to mostly everyone; even my 11 month old son.
Scenario:
Lately, we've found that she has a foot deal:if a man, only a man, lifts his foot up around her, she'll dart to it and attack the toes. While she does this she's growling, pulling her ears and teeth back defensively and whining but also, wagging her tail vigorously and afterwards, she'll lick me or whoever and then do a happy dog smile and run in circles and be all happy go lucky.I know animal behavior pretty well but this just stumps me-is it stressful to her, or does she enjoy it,maybe thinks its a game of some sort? She acts defensive possesive and scared but at the same time, displays happy signals.I don't get it?Can anyone help us out with this? We've done some tests where my fiance puts his foot up and she immediately takes to her typical routine with it.It's cute, but if it stresses her out and she's just now starting it, I don't know what to make of it.
I should add that she only does it if they're wearing tennis shoes; never with bare feet or socks. And yes, she does have posessive tendencies with me also. What's it all about?
4 AnswersDogs10 years agoCry it out method and separation anexiety?
so my sons now 11 monthes and he has the WORST separation anxiety EVER.its a long story but his father is just now back in the picture and since its been only me and him, he wont go to anyone but me that lives in our house.i dont know what to do;trying to go back to college, having to do a lot of little things during the day,its hard to even eat with him standing right there, scratching to get up in my lap.i dont mind carting him around a lot but i need a tiny bit of space to do the productive things i need to do.is there anything that i can do to help with this issue?i know its typical at this age and furhter on but is there any way i can make it not so bad...?i mean his dads willing and there to help now but its so hard detaching max from me;so bad in fact that for a few days now hes had to to cry himself either tired or completely to sleep even though i feel bad.:( theres just nothing i can do; he wont let me put him to sleep even when hes tired, and hes so defiant and such a fighter things are getting sort of out of control.and also,it hurts my feelings and his dads that theres nothing he can do to help even though he wants to really badly.what do we do?:/
oh and i should add that he is teething but i give him infants advil and baby nightime formula orajel and his teething toys, but its not so much his teeth as he just wants to be carried around.not just held, but walked around and roughoused.

9 AnswersBaby Names10 years agoDoes Your Little One Do This?
My son is ten monthes old and he likes to feed things to people;he feeds the dog toys and crackers, he feeds me toys, he tries to feed his dad his bottle and sippies..it's cute, and I love that he's a good share-er,but why does he get so excited about it?We'll take bathes together sometimes, and we'll sit and he'll try and feed me his bath toys that are these little foam, different colored shapes. When I take the toy from him and put it in my mouth he flaps his arms and laughs and squeals. It's hilarious, lol. Why does he do this?
2 AnswersOther - Pregnancy & Parenting10 years agoAre There Any Unguided Horseback Riding Stables On The Oregon Coast?
September 2nd through 4th a few family members and I, all adults, are planning a trip to the coast for the weekend and one attraction we wanted to do was beach riding- we're all advanced riders with years of equine experience but I can't find any stables that provide unguided rides-do they even exist?Guided riding just doesn't seem fun at all;I don't really want to walk up and down the beach once just to get off and pay upwards of 40 dollars. That's lame.
1 AnswerPortland10 years agoHow Many Tattoos Can You Get At Once?
I'm getting a medium sized dragon on my shoulder for my birthday, but I also want to get a small virgo sign on my hip.Can I get both or will i get ink poisoning or something?these are my first tats so,I don't know anything about tattooing so this probably sounds stupid.I have the money time and pain tolerance for both but will they let you do that?
There's a place near me that does all you can stand tats for $300 but I'm not sure if they're illegal or what.I'm not doing that but they have that and it makes me think-how many will they let you get at once?

-What kind of favors do I give out? There will be a lot of older little kids (toddler and preschooler/elementary) there, they're my target audience for favors.
-Where can we rent a dinosaur suit?I'm scared to even start looking for this, lol. No,not Barney!
5 AnswersParenting10 years agoFor Women Only:Body After Kids?
It may be t.m.i but its been 9 monthes since my son was born and ive slimmed down to below my prepregnancy weight and im thrilled but the one thing that seems to not have weathered pregnancy (and short term nursing) well are my boobs.:/ i really dislike the look:stretched out and saggy, but surgery is out of the question right now. So,my question is,is there anything at all i can do to make them look nicer?they look awful and my fiance doesnt seem to mind but i really do and i cant stand them.
Also,i do upper body workouts to help but the results are minimal an doesnt help with the aereola(?) size;which is way too big for their small size
