How Much Formula Should My 11 Month Old Be Drinking Daily?
I couldn't find a good answer to this like, ANYWHERE.All anyone talked about was sippy cups and cow's milk.
So my son is 11 monthes on the 7th, and he's bottle fed.Well, recently since introducing cow's milk WITH THE GUIDANCE OF HIS DOCTOR, he barely drinks formula. He has like, maybe two or three 5 to 8 ounce bottles of formula a day, and then of course he has his graham cracker snacks, his two or three meals of jar food/fresh fruits and veggies/or mixed grain baby cereal, and a sippy of either juice or whole cow's milk.
I feel like he should be eating more formula? We're quitting formula completely after his first birthday, but I still feel he isn't getting enough while he's still on the formula?I need some help his pedi is on vacation and nobody has given be a succint answer so far. It's really stressing me out; I don't want him to get iron defficiency anemia;I have that and it's terrible./:( I know baby cereals are iron rich and I know we can get vitamins if need be but I'm still a little scared about the amount of formula he drinks.
In a clearer format, here is his most typical eating schedule:
Morning:Mixed grain baby cereal or jarred baby fruit, sippy of juice or milk
Nap-formula bottle,usually 5 or so ounces
Snack-Half a graham cracker
Afternoon:Small meat snack with or without jarred veggie, sippy of juice or milk
Snack-Other half of the Graham cracker
Nap-Cow's milk bottle
Dinner:Jarred veggie or jarred meat
Bedtime:Formula bottle or cow's milk bottle, most usually formula, always 8 ounces
90% of what he eats is frofrom baby-only brands that make the food specially formulated for a babys needs; like we have Gerber cereals and foods, Graduates snacks, Baby Grahams, etc. Does that make a difference?
Drama:
Yeah he eats normal cereals sometimes because he likes different textures, too much of the same makes him bored; that's a great idea mixing;I don't know why I didn't think of it before.

Mix the formula half and half w/ the cow's milk. that way he's getting the nutruients that he still needs in his formula, yet he still tastes the cow's milk and won't ever know the difference.
I had to do this w/ all 3 of my kids, but for the opposite reason. Mine didn't want the cow's milk and wanted to drink only formula. So, to wean them off formula and get them used to milk, I had to trick them by slowly taking more formula out and adding more milk in until we were completely out of formula and they were drinking almost all cow's milk in their bottles.
Good luck..
P.s...
as far as the specially forumlated baby foods from Gerber. I say in moderation it's fine, but it;s certainly more expensive. By the time he's a full year old, he should be able to eat regular cereals, like cheerios, Chex, honey comb w/ his fingers and he can even eat real foods like Pastas, green beans from a can, real spaghetti when you cook it at home..etc etc..as long as it's cut up in small peices.
