Things to put on CV to become a doctor?

Things to put on CV to become a doctor?

Hey guys, I'm 15 and I definitely know that I want my future job to be within the science field.

My thrill and happiness thrives from making other people truly happy and seeing people cry with joy makes me cry also! (No soppyness intended)

So I guess a doctor would be the right path to take as it's the main professional job to treat patients and even save lives, nothing could give me a bigger buzz than that.

But where do I start!? I'm really stuck on what extra curricular stuff to do, as just grades won't get me as far as I wish to be..

Thanks!

    Hi,

Congrats on having your career figured out at 15. That's great.

An important thing to do during your high school years is to keep all three sciences; Chemistry, Biology, and Physics. If possible, take Biology and Chemistry at a higher level since these are the key subjects you will need for university and most universities want you to take these at a high level.

For extra-curricular, it doesn't really matter that much what you do, as long as you do it. Universities like well-rounded people, meaning they like people who do both sports and instruments and charity organizations and things like that. So just choose things that interest you and get involved! If you want to do something that will help you later in your career, maybe call you local hospital and ask about volunteering jobs. That way, you'd get to see real doctors at work and get good insight on the whole process. I think most hospitals won't accept 15 year olds working there, but I'm pretty sure that they'll have something for 16 year olds, so maybe wait a little bit.

Getting into a university for a medical career is competitive, so do lots of extra curricular but stay focused on your grades, since they are the most important.

    Good luck!

It is VITAL that you have some sort of medical-based work experience on your application, otherwise it is unlikely you will be considered for such a competitive course. I guess if you know exactly which sort of area you'd like to go into (surgery, GP, paediatrics etc.) then you should try and get a lot of experience in that area, otherwise I think a wide range of experiences is probably best (as you're so young, you're lucky that you have so much time!)

Otherwise, there is some sort of taster course that you can do when you're about 17 - I think it's called MEDLINK. If I remember correctly, it's a bit pricey, so not necessary, but if you've got the financial backing it's worth doing.
