Harry Potter themed wedding ideas?
My fiance and I are getting married and we are having a Harry Potter themed wedding! Our cake is going to be the hogwarts castle and the invitations look like the ones from the 1st movie. I will be wearing a tradtional wedding gown and he a tux. I want to create a fiberoptic board to have hung from the ceiling above the dancefloor in the reception room---I will be designing this myself. There will also be fake floating candles hung from the ceiling to give off the same magical effect as the great hall...I need some more ideas to help bring the magic to our day. We both have been fans since childhood and want to incorporate the magic from our childhood into this day. We want to make it classy though and not have the cartoonish kid style party plate party....anyone have some creative ideas? What about the food?
Please do not comment if you have something negative about our chosen theme. All other suggestions and comments welcome.

Oh my gosh. Thank you, you just designed my entire wedding.
What song are you dancing too?
Have some Wizard Wroock playing at your reception :)
Food, dinner you could just have real food, that won't matter. But get your hands on some yummy desserts like cauldron cakes, pumpkin pasties, chocolate frogs, etc.
You could always have Voldemort marry you instead of a priest/preacher (lol, that was a joke, don't worry)
You could have the soundtrack playing quietly during dinner :)
PLAY ONE OF THE MOVIES! :D
Incorporate your favorite quotes into your speeches.
Mention how sad you are that Fred couldn't be there XD
Do you know what your favorite house is? Or have you been sorted on Pottermore? Because then you could wear something of that color. For example i was sorted into Gryffindor, So I could wear like a red something in my hair. Or you could incorporate all the House colors.
Here are some recipes I found online :)

Have SO much fun at your wedding! I love this idea so much!
Thanks for giving me MY wedding plans! :D Now I just need a groom...

I'm not a Harry Potter fan, but I don't think it's lame at all. If this is what you're into, then you should totally do it. There will always be nay-sayers, no matter what theme you pick - might as well pick something that is meaningful to you. I disagree with people who say it's "juvenile"; just because it is something that appeals to kids doesn't make it lame or juvenile or stupid. Plenty of adults love Harry Potter and find the story captivating. Don't let snobby people get to you; I bet most of these people who are so critical of Harry Potter haven't even read a book (any book) in years. P.S. Sorry, I haven't ready Harry Potter myself, so I can't offer any ideas on what to include in your wedding. But from what I've seen and heard, the book itself is a rich source of inspiration for all kinds of creative ideas.

I think this is brilliant, I must have a Harry Potter themed wedding when I get married now. First of all, I wanted to suggest, actually, instead of the usual Great Hall-like theme, maybe decorating the place like it was during the Yule Ball? I find it more elegant and beautiful, but still very magical.
If you don't want to abandon your former plans though, which I do think are great, here are a few more ideas to add to it.
- If it's within your budget to do so, instead of normal wine glasses and stuff, you should find some golden/bronze goblets to serve beverages in, I noticed during the feasts they all use those to drink in.
- You didn't mention much about the layout of the place, but I assume you'll be setting it up as if it's the Great Hall, since you mentioned the floating candles. You can have the guests sit at four long tables, and the guests of honor (I don't know if that's what they're called, but usually, I see the parents, bride, groom, brothers, sisters, family, etc. sit at a table in the front) could sit where the teachers usually sit during the Great Hall feasts.
- I don't know if this is customary for most weddings, but the ones I've been to all place a small gift on or near each guests' setting, kind of as a thank you for attending. Usually it's chocolates or a keychain or something, if you can order some Chocolate Frogs or sweets from the Harry Potter Wizarding World theme park or website, that would be nice. If not, you can get regular jelly beans or something, and wrap them as if they are 'Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans', like the ones Harry and them purchase from Hogsmeade.
- If it's not too much trouble, you could have a dress code. You can have them dress in the colors of the four houses (Not like a full scarlet suit or dress, or anything like that, but perhaps just a tie of that color, or headdress for girls or something? Let the guests decide, but just give them the theme). I would like this idea, but it does seem like a bit of trouble, I don't like being told what to wear when I attend weddings anyway, so I'm not too sure about this one or how it would work.
- The food served at the feasts are usually stuff like roast beef, roast chicken, pork chops, lamb chops, sausages, bacon, steak, boiled potatoes, roast potatoes, chips, yorkshire pudding, peas, carrots, and peppermint humbugs, most of which should be easy enough to prepare. Of course you're not going to have everything, but pick what you like I guess. They eat different things during different feasts though, pumpkin dishes for Halloween feasts, roasted turkey for Christmas, etc.
- You can come up with mini games to play between meals, with the people sitting at each of the four tables belonging to a different house, and award and record house points to each table or 'house' as the night progresses. Then at the end you can announce the winning table, and give them prizes or something. It's just for the fun though, so the prizes could just be Chocolate Frogs or something simple.
I'll keep adding more if I think of any, this is fun. Best of luck!

Firstly congratulations about engagement! Thats such a good idea for a wedding! Im 13 and in LOVE with harry potter, why not have a sorting hat for seating arangements? And name the tables after houses and proffesers, having the top table laid out like the top table on harry potter... You could give all the guests cloaks and glasses? Congratulations hope you two have wonderfull wedding and i hope to hear if you applied my ideas:) x

To keep it classy just use a few obvious "statement" decorating elements instead of trying to replicate fine details. Set the Harry Potter items off with very simple/generic items so you don't look like you're trying too hard. Things get cheesy when there are lots of little dodads that don't make much of an impression.
So, for example have HP themed centerpieces at the tables but don't try to have "magic wand cutlery" or weird colored tablecloths.
Also, try to stick to images from the happy parts of the movie series and stay away from scary or gore.
Fewer, bigger, well done decor items keeps it classy. Avoid clutter.

Would love to see some pictures. I can see my son doing the exact same think, he grew up with Harry Potter!
BUTTER BEER is a must!
Chocolate frogs for guests gifts (could make it small smore gift box with several graham crackers)
Personalized wands
Bertie Beans

You could have the menues printed on a paper similar to parchment.
The escort cards could be arranged around an owl(perhaps a metal one from a store like Michaels or Hobby Lobby).
You could incorporate some of the food mentioned in the stories into your meal.
You could name the tables after the Founders or professors, or important magical figures. You could also name them after classes and have each centerpiece made of the same flowers with small object representing the class around them.
Arrange the tables like the great hall if possible.
Instead of flowers you could have glass containers of varying sizes and styles filled with different colored water representing potions(if you put white flowers in colored water the day before the wedding the tips of the petals will have changed to the color of the water, which could be an interesting effect when placed in a bottle of "potion")or with beads, raisins, etc, representing potion ingredients.
The cake could be a more subtle nod to the stories, perhaps having four tiers, each one in the color of a house.
You could have small owls tucked away in unexpected places.
You could have a candy bar with Potter candies like Ice Mice, Blood Pops, Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans, and Fizzing Whizbees. Use apothecary jars in varying sizes to hold the candies, and a bright tablecloth representative of Honeydukes.
