The septum is a nightmare to get things through. Slot the ring into the end of the needle and push it through, remember it is curved and not straight and once in screw the balls on tight.
Do't take the needle out to put the ring in as some piercings can close within seconds of being removed.

Well, the thing is a 14 gauge needle used is meant for 16 gauge jewelry, so it isn't going to go in.
The only things you can do are:
1. Keep the needle in til you can get 16g jewelry (which I guess you don't mind doing)
2. Take it out (but it will close up, if you think it's going to stay open after one day your nuts. Septums can close up after several hours with no jewelry in even when fully healed)
3. Or you can shove the 14 gauge jewelry in (but that's going to involve some pain and damage to your nose most likely)
I would opt for taking it out and following good cleaning procedure for several months and then going to get it re-pierced somewhere professional.
To clean it heat 8 oz. of water and dissolve 1/4 tsp. of sea salt. Make sure it is sea salt, regular won't work.

24 hours is still short since your skin is still at a very delicate phase. Maybe try to find a straight pin 14 gauge to adleast take the needle off your face and give it time to heal a bit before changing it to the ring, which is harder to put than a straight pin.
Good luck with that

This is why you shouldnt pierce at home. Take it out and go to a professional.
