Can You Tell Halloween Is Near?

ripened apples fall from the tree

cider mist fills the air

pumpkins sit on every porch

ghosts are haunting everywhere

leaves crunch under every step

bats fly low to catch the hair

witches silhouettes on the moon

this fallen time comes every year

little goblins getting ready

to stir their mischief among the living

houses loaded with wrapped candy

dad stands by for the giving

all the children dress in costume

innocently collecting their sugary stash

danger lurking in the background

apples ready to cut a gash

beware my little ones this day

when all the nasties are out to play

    I love Halloween!!

The hair line although fine is the only weak link in an otherwise charming poem.

Bats flying grabbing you by the hair

Bats landing down in your hair

Bats hanging by a single hair

    I can't improve on it.

As it happens this is a question and is asked in the subject line as such, using the correct puncyuation, "?"

As to the poem Shiley, it is a wonderful trip though some fond memories, and thank you for postin.

It was warm that year, for halloween

we dressed in our best, so as to be well seen

    Early out as darkness fell

early home, when sacks did swell.

Mistake it was to hand out ice cream bars,

and as my bag filled, after goin far

on a porch, in a spooky light

my sack broke, to some ghosts delight,

melted the pop did, too soon then for dessert

my candy spilled all over, Oh that so hurt.

Consoled I was by candy from the people at the door

They gave me a new sack, as I asked for just one more.

It wasn't the best year, but one I can smile about now.

A vivid poem which I enjoyed reading,

and a reminder that I must stock up

for the Trick or Treat knock on the door...

The last two lines are my favourite

I guess it must be a good poem because

while reading it I got a flash of Clement Moore's

    "The Night Before Christmas"

    ...only in a holloweeny way

This is really a great poem...having the colorful

descriptions of the holiday time, yet also the

reminders of being safe as there are dangers

    to be remembered~ excellent job!

I do so love Autumn and the advent of Halloween. You've just reminded in superior fashion I might add just why it is so. Thanks Shirley, love the poem.

Halloween > ALL OTHER HOLIDAYS! Yes, yes and this is a charming, or horrific, (take your pick) piece of writin'.

lovely poem, but i don't see a question [other than the title of the poem, which is not a 'true' question because it's a title.]

neat theme, though! i liked it.
