If this bothers you you need to talk to him and tell him that you don't think he's respecting your relationship by saying that. And that you're taking it in a way that you dont' like and that it would be nice if he could explain it to you.
Something you need to tell him, also, is that you are not forcing this relationship and that if he needs something new in his life you will stay out of his way. It's better to keep this friendly and clear, cheating is for cheap people. If you love them, let them go, girl. You will suffer if you stay with him knowing he wants to be with someone else.
