I have a Pre-Existing Condition and Insurance won't cover me, Should a Law say they should?

I was BORN with a Pretty bad Heart Problem and I am unable to get Insurance because of something I was Born with and can't Control.

Under Obama-Care a Pre-Existing Condition like mine is not a reason that Insurance can Deny me.

But Many want to get rid of it??? Why???

And what should I do Besides go on Welfare and using Tax Payer Money?????

When the law is fully implemented by 2014 an insurance company will not be able to refuse you because of your preexisting condition!!!

But just look at some of the idiot remarks on here, the new health care bill is responsible for insurance rates increasing!!???**!!! it is the insurance companies who are dodging the bullet any way they can, and increasing the rates is just one way of convincing people that it is the fault of the bill, just like the silly dumb bastards on here who are spouting the same sh1t!!!

Medical debt in the biggest cause of bankruptcy in the US ( 80% of which ARE insured!!!), this is unheard of in every industrialized nation on the planet, the scare mongering about nations who have universal health care are filled with lies and misinformation, the pharmaceuticals charge the US ten times more than any other country for exactly the same drugs, couple this with a stinking inhuman for profit system and you understand why the insurance companies will say and do anything they can to keep the people of this country in their grip!!!

We have for decades fallen for the same lies and BS from Republicans who do nothing to help but just block anything that means fairness, they are in the pockets of the insurers who bankroll their campaigns to keep the blinkers on a very naive American public!!!

I suppose you could try and do what Ron Paul told us to do, go to your church or charity and see if they will help you out!!! ( what century is this silly old fool living in!!!)

The Solution, you have just explained the problem, insurance companies are a business and have to make a profit, and yes your analogy was bad!!! I have heard too many conservatives compare human life to a car in terms of insurance and it makes me sick!!! we need a single payer health care and to get rid of this horrible disgusting system, if you want insurance go and get it, and just watch the premiums plummet when they don't monopolize the system like they do now!!!

The way I understand insurance is, they are betting that you will live a long time and pay them monthly. You are betting that something will happen to you, and you will need them to pay for hospital, etc. When you are at a high risk for something happening, they do not want to take the bet.

Forcing them to take high risk people, will force the cost of Insurance up for everyone because they will have to cover the expense some way.

That said, you need to be able to have insurance, there has to be an answer to the problem. Maybe Obama-care will be the first step.

Under "Obamacare", health insurance companies can no longer deny health insurance to children with pre-existing conditions. For adults, that law applies to them starting in 2014. If you go to a hospital with no insurance, you will be treated in the emergency room. The hospital will then seek to recover the monies owed to them after the fact. Depending on your income, it's possible that you may be eligible for Medical or your state's version of it. Unfortunately, that's the current situation.

First, let me thank you for having the courage to ask such a tough question...

I am Conservative and am adamantly against Obamacare, but please, allow me to explain fully in answer to your question.

You are exactly the person I want my tax dollars to go to and help. I want you to have the best medical care possible and to live the fullest life possible and as a compassionate, caring fellow American, I would gladly pay even more of the Money that I am able to earn, to assist those that are not able to physically, mentally or emotionally capable.

Pre-existing Conditions and Insurance- I know this is a bad analogy, but, you can't get into a Car Accident, total your new Prius and tow it to State Farm and walk in, give them $200 for first months Insurance Payment and they buy you a new car?

They are businesses, not, Non-Profit, but profit making businesses. The government has no RIGHT to force them in any way to do business by the Government "ethical" Business Model.

Please, don't let any of the offend you, it's not the intent.

How long will a Health Insurance Company stay in business if it has to "insure" someone that has a Known, Expensive Condition? Not very long. And how many people will quit paying $400 in premiums if the KNOW that they can just go pay their first months premium when the find out the have cancer and the Companies "Have" to cover them?

It's my responsibility and yours, to help those less fortunate than ourselves, through our charity and through our taxes. We should FORCE Private Business to be charitable.

We really need to make sure that people that are using the Welfare and Tax Payer Money, are actually in need. I think that is where the problem lies. Far too many are ABUSING the system, so that makes it harder for those in your situation to get the help they Really need, and it makes it hard for those in MY Position that want to help, but see our hard earned money being Mis-Used to give as much as we'd like.

Thanks again for the chance to address your concerns. I hope maybe, you can see a different side of Pre-Existing Conditions? Insurance is supposed to protect you from the UNKNOWN, or Unexpected. There should be MORE government/philanthropic help for those with known conditions.

No one wants you to go on welfare and use tax payer money. They rather you would just die, but they would be OK if some charity or benefactor stepped up to pay.

Edit: Nearly every right-winger response makes the case for Universal government funded single payer health care - Insurance does not cover the sick and shouldn't be asked to. Which is exactly why we have medicare - Because they wouldn't or couldn't cover this high risk pool - which every American becomes a part of eventually.

Be that as it may under Obama Care the insurance carriers are happy to cover preexisting conditions in exchange for 30 million Additional, mostly healthy customers that the mandate would create. See how this works - no one has to pay a lot when everyone pays a little. Since they consider the mandate unconstitutional then lets make it a tax.

Because insurance companies are businesses in the end and they can be heartless. I am infertile, as is 15% of all couples. But, we had to spend upwards of $30,000 to have one healthy child because the simple solution for us to have a child, IVF, is not covered by most insurance companies.

Pre-existing conditions are not covered in the first 2 years of your enrollment but all that has changed. If you have been like that since birth why didn't your parents try and take care of it?

Amanda, there are insurances out there that will cover you for your condition, but they are expensive. the insurances can do as they please and can't be forced to cover you. try Blue Cross Blue Shield, my rep says they will cover most any body. again I don't know how expensive they will be, but try them and see what they say, I had trouble because of my conditions and they covered me. I wish you well.

    Did you have any parents?

You should have been covered under their insurance for your first 26 years. That should give you time to figure something out.

Ask a republican, and they will give you some snarky BS. that an insurer is only looking out for you. What they really mean is, die quickly, so you won't be my problem.
