What do you think the U.S. response would be if a superpower country invaded it?
I was just thinking about Modern Warfare and how the Russians invaded the U.S. so swiftly and how they devastated the eastern sea board with such ease and how every where you looked you would see russian paratroopers in the horizon and BTRs all up and down the streets.
How would that play out in the real world, would their be a draft, how would we produce such a massive arsenal such as what we saw in World War 2 with such a troubling economy? Would NATO join us or would they just ***** up and leave us hanging in the wind, would the NATO countries want U.S. territory or U.S. resources for their help?

First of all, Like most others said, They need to mobilize and that takes time, they then need a way to get here, which Russia is far from having the navy to transport all those soldiers. Let alone cargo planes to drop airborne troops. Our Navy would quickly destroy their navy and not leave much for the rest of NATO, because NATO would probably help us. If they were to get soldiers on the east coast, we would use our technological, skilled, and higher number of troops to destroy them.
Plus, I think Russia is part of NATO.
There would NOT be a draft because not many of our soldiers would die.
In ww2, the economy was worse then it is now (for now), and we built plenty of ordinance, we wouldn't need people getting jobs in building bombs and bullets and whatnot because we have so much and we wouldn't use much of it in an attack like that.
I doubt NATO would want anything from the U.S. in return.
But if russia had a bigger and more capable navy, then they might be able to take a very small part of the U.S for only a few days.

It took the US and UK eight years to stabilize Iraq. The US is the most powerful and well funded force on the planet and it them that long to achieve victory. Mainly because the insurgents were very well armed and because the US had to rebuild Iraq from the ground up. The post war costs will be in the trillions. Once the conventional war was won the US led coalition required 176,000 troops to hold down the country. Iraq was a country of 25 million. the US is a country of 312.5 million. In the US 90 out of 100 people own a gun. They sell assault rifles at the store and anyone with a clean record can get one. Can you imagine how many tens of MILLIONS of troops would be required to actually take over the United States and then hold it? Any such operation would be unsustainable. It'd be impossible to suppress the civilian population even if you were miraculously able to defeat the US military. Driving the Americans out of your country. when they're the invaders is one thing. Defeating them on their own land is an entirely different story.
Americans in general are very patriotic people. Sometimes to the point where it's just annoying. I don't think they'd put up with someone invading their country. For every American you killed five more would take his place.

The end result would be a nuclear holocaust no matter what. If another superpower, China or Russia managed to get a foothold on mainland US, the US would be assisted by the rest of the NATO countries, the very purpose of NATO is to defend any and all of the member nations in the event of outside aggression and all the members are required to assist.
Eventually though, one side would start to lose, which it would be is essentially meaningless, since that side would be the first to use nukes as a last ditch effort. That would then be countered by the other side using nukes... and we all know where that goes.

Despite our troubling economy, we still have the strongest armed forces in the world. Our military strength is rarely affected by the conditions of our economy.
A homeland invasion would be most unlikely due to our high technological assets. There is a higher change that we would detect a preemptive attack before it occurs.
Yes, if the country is ever in a state of emergency as declared by the President, the Selective Service System would activate a draft and military conscription revive back into our government.
NATO would definitely help us as we're a member of the alliance and its ultimate mission is to provide mutual defense for its members.
We may not be the top dog anymore in regards to the economy, but don't underestimate our military power for we still maintain our military to be the best in the world ever since World War II.

Would never happen.
Why? It's impossible to get a force that large across oceans without SOMEBODY noticing. Even during Pearl Harbor, we knew the Japanese were coming on radar...except nobody thought it was real and it was too late.
In order to invade another country across the ocean, you need the logistical ability to do so. No one but the US has the assets in place to do it like that in a fast enough manner, and even then we still need weeks in order to get the full might of the US to bear.
In order to invade someone, you need to mobilize your forces and get them to strategic locations to be transported to their destination. The US has spy satellites, CIA agents, and other assets that eavesdrop and listen to everything that's going on.
Any build-up of forces triggers alerts. The President gets a report every single day of stuff like that called the National Intelligence Estimate. It's a cumulative report of everything that goes on that can affect the US or its allies. Not much goes by, especially in a modern world like it is now, that someone doesn't notice.
As an example, the largest invasion force in the history of the world, built up in southern England during WWII. The Nazis knew the force was there and that the US and its allies were going to invade France, but they didn't know exactly where. England and France are separated only by a hundred miles or so of water, so that's not even very far. Imagine trying to get those many troops to the other side of the world. It would a Houdini like effort to hide those troops and all those support units that are needed to sustain them.

Realistically NO country would invade the US. It is too big a land mass, and the people have the right of Gun ownership. It would be impossible to hold it even if you had defeated its armed forces. The American people are bright and very resourceful, they would soon organise and start to kick some @rse. I have every faith in that.

The only Superpower currently is the United States.
Despite that, no other country, or combination of countries, has the ability to airland or conduct an amphibious invasion of the continental United States with any expectation of anything other than local success at the point of the air- or beachhead.

Well, they would have to swim here. Considering no country has a navy large enough to conduct such an invasion.

Depends who invaded us really, especially deciding if NATO would get involved or not. Pretty much if we get invaded, they would help because its politically correct to help the defenders and unpolitically correct to be the attackers.
