Did Darwin Kill God? Opinions needed!?
Writing essay on whether evolution proves God does not exist. I will be arguing against creationists who take the bible literally and I will suggest that the bible was always meant as metaphorical to teach morals. I will also be analyzing causation theory. I am interested to know peoples opinions on this so I can have more varied arguments in my essay. All opinions are welcomed and respected. Personally I am an atheist but I want to put across a fairly balanced argument.
Thanks :)

No.
If it were so easy to "kill God" that one man can do so by publishing a book, then God never existed in the first place.
I am a Catholic, myself ... and I accept Darwinian theory wholeheartedly as a sound scientific explanation of the origins of all species on the planet, including our own. I do NOT believe that faith in God is threatened in any way whatsoever, by the concept of evolution of humans from common ancestors shared with other species, by a process of evolution driven in large part by natural selection, but by other natural forces as well (such as genetic drift, gene flow, and mutations).
I find Darwinian evolution to be be no more of a threat to the idea of God, than the idea that babies come from the biological process of sexual reproduction, instead of being "created" spontaneously by God.
I find it no more threatening to the existence of God, than the idea that gravity causes things to fall to the ground instead of "God's will." I feel no need to invent a 'theory' of "Intelligent Falling" to protect the idea of God.
From gravity to childbirth to atomic forces to quantum mechanics ... if you believe in God, then you MUST already have to accept that God clearly acts *THROUGH* the universe He created.
Why certain ardent theists insist on claiming that *evolution* is the exception, is baffling. Why? Because a literal reading of the Book of Genesis describes a more instantaneous process? What a LOUSY reason to use faith as an excuse for rejecting CORE principles of modern science!
For more information, I highly recommend the Clergy Letter Project. This is a letter, signed by over 13,000 clergy members from many different faiths (ministers, priests, rabbis, deacons, bishops, etc.) in support of evolution and the idea that faith in God and core principles of modern science, can coexist without contradiction.
Please check it out. It's really short (the letter is two paragraphs). Even if you are an atheist, you should know that even people who dedicate their lives and careers to religious faith, have no problem with evolution:

provided that he replace into interior a similar era as Freud, and because i think of his father replace right into a pastor, i ask your self whether he himself had subject concerns together with his very own human father. certainly one of those lot of people then who made their 'mark', had pastors as fathers. perhaps they only had to pay attention too lots bible, and maybe what they observed did not line up. Darwin interestingly got here to have somewhat a transformation of heart in the direction of the tip of his life.

You can't kill something that never existed.
