Should I wait to by a deer rifle?

I am without a deer gun this year as I sold mine to finance another interest (kicking self in butt).

I am looking to get a Marlin 336. They're on sale with a scope for $350.

My other line of thinking is waiting to the end of season to see if I can score a sweet deal on one(under 225) or even a nicer gun.

I don't think I'll get out more than once or twice this year due to time constraints, and I do like to do other things this time of year. So, it wouldn't be a huge hardship to forgo this season.

I guess my question is do you think there will be great private seller deals after the season that are worth waiting for, or should I just buy at a good price now and enjoy?

Gun prices are pretty stable so thinking there will be good buys on a deer rifle after deer season is kind of errant thinking. Perhaps if you could absolutely be in the right place at the exact right time you might come across some guy fed up with hunting and wanting to quit who would sell his rifle cheap. But that would be an extremely long shot and not worth waiting for. Choose the rifle you want and buy it now...enjoy.

Look carefully at that package deal- it's typical this time of year to slap a cheap scope on a rifle, and then sell the package as if it's a super deal. You may well do better to buy the rifle separately and then put a decent scope on it.

Marlin 336s are pretty popular, and for that reason there are always a lot of used ones around. Considering how many deer hunters only put a half-dozen shots a year through their rifles, you should be able to find one in excellent condition- especially after the season's over.

Buy it now. They are a quality weapon and would serve you well for years. I would replace the current scope after season ends though. I had my 742 lockup first morning of season, I went straight to the local gunshop and purchased a M77 Hawkeye and a crappy scope to get me through the season. The next morning I killed the biggest buck i have ever gotten. So I would believe that spending the money now would be the best route.

I think that if you look hard you can find good condition used Marlin 336's for about $250 right now.

What I have seen on my local used gun racks is about as inexpensively priced as its ever been.

Ya i would just get, if you get a deer this year you'll be very glad you did. waiting for a good deal on a gun isn't worth missing a deer hunting season over. IMO

All that matters when it comes to huntin is now, if you wait till next season you'll probably hesitate and hold it off another year. Get the gun and GET IN THE WOODS!!! Good luck
