I received something I didn't order through the mail. May I keep it?

I ordered "free, three US stamps" from a flyer. I got them, along with 6 sets of other stamps , at about four dollars apiece, and a bill. I didn't see any written contract obligating me to pay for these or send them back. I know the law varies by state. Can I keep them all without paying?

This is a real bummer as they were for my nephew's Christmas. I can't afford to pay for the others right now.

Update:

Thanks for the good answers, all. But, I know for a fact in CA you can keep them, free. It varies by state. I will need to look closer. I don't have the original flyer. Maybe I can get one online and read it for an "approval" clause. I don't remember signing anything, just putting on address label and stamp.

Thanks for the offer, but I just did this on a whim.I was afraid it would be a come-on deal. I have $400 to carry me to Dec, so I just can't afford $30 worth of stamps right now. I need a new tire.

you need to read the flyer again; such offers usually mention that the additional stamps were sent "on approval"

If you want them, pay for them. Otherwise send them back.

If you really need some stamps for your nephews gift, I will send you some for free

I signed up for those buy 3 DVD's at full price and get 9 free thing they had going a while back....and every month they would send me a movie of their choice at full price. I had two choices, either write on the package "Return to sender I did not order", OR i could keep it and I got billed for it.

My point is, if you keep it they have the right to bill you for it. If I were you i would call them and say there has been some mistake and either they can let you keep it or they can send you a return label so you don't have to pay postage on the stuff they didn't mean to send you....they might just let you keep it too.

keep them and don't pay. If they request something just send them back as you don't want them.
