Actually, even from an atheist standpoint, that may very well be correct.

Recent research has suggested that theism is a human characteristic that evolved over time. Due to our raised intellect as we evolved we began to see our place in the universe and discovered that it was utterly meaningless. The human mind evolved the characteristc of theism in order to make us feel as if we were part of something larger which limited the meaninglessness of our lives.

All species of all types are born with defects and mutations, maybe atheism is one of them (assuming someone is an atheist from birth). If someone becomes an atheist, we can no longer present that argument, instead we have changed our pre-existing state of mind based on teaching. This can be seen in very simple behaviours as well. One example is fear of the dark ... it's instinctual and is hard-wired into us, however we shed that fear through teaching as we are brought up.

Considering the horrors which have stemmed from religion , the design flaw would seem to be belief in god.

It is sad that with all the evidence of creation that anyone would love their sin so much that they would deny the existence of the Creator.

Romans 1:21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.

24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25 They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.

    Why would it be?

Wishful thinking has never accomplished anything... and many 'beliefs' have been used to curtail and even halt learning, and used to kill those that didn't accept it, about the real world...

People are still not allowed to dance or sing in some religions even today... just because they

believe their god doesn't want it...

    IMHO

Lack of proof is not a flaw. Show me some evidence and I would believe.

Skepticism is not a flaw; it is a rational method of looking at the universe.

Nope. Just an effect of free will.

No; believing in fictions appears to be a defense mechanism against reality.
